Ledda spent most of her life as a political pawn of her father. He would bring her out when he wanted to show her off and put her back in the nursery when he wanted peace and quiet. It was much worse for her brother. He had to feel the full force of their father's wrath at being stuck in a human town. Finally, they received word that they could return to the halfling island as long as Ledda was willing to marry a much older noble of the island. Her father has bargained her away to a man 40 years older than her, so that he could go home. She never did find out what he did to get kicked out in the first place.
However, her father wasn't allowed to set foot on the island until the marriage had been signed, sealed, and consummated. Her brother, Sito, was to escort her to the island for the marriage. Sito did so under protest and with a broken arm, where their father showed exactly how displeased he was with Sito's protest. On the way, to the island, their ship was attacked by pirates.
Pirates!!!
On the pirate ship was Kytta Hagan. Kytta hid her away in her bunk until the ship was under way, then hid her in a corner of the storeroom. Half way through the voyage, the captain found her and threatened to throw her overboard for being a stowaway. Both her brother, who was still alive, and Kytta, begged for her life. Kytta earned a lashing as punishment for help her stowaway, and her brother barter his own body away to the Captain. He won't talk to anyone about what happened in the Captain's quarters, and now all he does is drink his life away.
At the end of the voyage to Morea Island, they landed in Alverton, where Kytta introduced her to the Morea Pirate Horde Guild and she signed on to be a pirate. Five years ago, Kytta lost her left leg in a battle and they both retired from pirating. They used their savings and bought The Quartermaster in Mordisi, so that they could be closer to Kytta's boys. Sito followed them to Mordisi, though he usually drinks at the cheaper tavern unless he is begging for help.
