Subterranean Miasma
I roll the pendent through my fingers, admiring the details. The smiths and jewelers did an incredible job at making this and it's supposed to be an example of what they're thinking my family's seal should look like. Three heads, three tails, the Subterranean Miasma looks almost alive.
Epiphany growls from behind me. I look over at her, six green eyes staring at the pendent. I hold it up for her to see.
"What do you think? Looks enough like you?" Her heads move closer, one hovering over mine with the other two coming round the sides. Her center head snorts and the other two shake. "Oh come on! It looks just like you!"
Her center head snorts again, shaking. "Well, I'm making this the Royal seal. I think it's perfect."
I feel Epiphany move and then a brief sound of shock. Moments later Luthari is dropped at my side. I laugh as Epiphany shoves her nose into my fiancée's chest, pinning him to the ground.
"Come on girl. You're going to have to accept him. We're getting married in a week." She growls, her other two heads hissing as he smiles nervously. "Epiphany, let Luthari go."
She snarls but lets him up. Luthari crawls over to me and presses against my side. "I'm never going to get her to like me, am I?"
I laugh. "Probably not but I like you, isn't that enough?"
Luthari smiles and kisses me lightly. Epiphany snaps at him. "Enough!"
I stand between her and him. "Back down! He's not going anywhere, and you don't get me to yourself!"
The irritable dragon hisses at me and turns around, showing me her tail. "Really? You're sulking!"
Luthari rests his head against my back. I feel the pendent being pressed into my hand. I look at it again. A Subterranean Miasma, the Royal seal. It will be perfect.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Three heads, four legs, two large wings and three long, strong tails. Hefty scales armor the back and arms, protecting the viscous hydra in it's frequent fights.
Genetics and Reproduction
A male and female will mate. Afterwards, the male leaves the female to fend for herself and the young. Roughly three months after mating, the female will lay a clutch of eggs numbering between 8-12. She will make sure the eggs are warm and safe for the five months they incubate. Once they hatch, she will feed them for the first month, then they're on their own.
Growth Rate & Stages
They start fairly small, only about a foot and a half long and really skinny. They eat viscously, constantly, almost anything they can get their jaws around for the first several years, including other, smaller drakie, even smaller siblings. As they grow, and they grow rapidly, they start expanding their diet to include larger prey, larger drakie. It takes a while to reach their adult size, finally hitting their massive five-hundred-foot marker at around one hundred and fifty years. This is also when they reach sexual maturity and will start seeking out a mate. Only one or two from every clutch will make it to this point.
Behaviour
Extremely aggressive, very violent and non-discerning with what they hunt. It barely tolerates the presence of others of its own kind and despite the fact that the females will care for the clutch until they're a month old, she will eat the weak to lessen the burden on her.
Additional Information
Domestication
To say they are domesticated is to be stricken with madness. These three-headed terrors are not tamable and should only be approached by highly trained and experienced drakie caregivers, researchers and riders.
Facial characteristics
Lots of sharp teeth, long horns on the back of their head and one on its nose. Harsh, dark eyes with no discernible pupils.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Across Gîlmunîrel, mostly in the caverens that run under the high plains where two of the tribes make their homes.
Average Intelligence
Humanoid levels of intelligence.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
They can breathe a deadly poison gas that causes uncontrolled bleeding in prey. They also can fly, though not extremely well, and have really good dark vision.
Gilglyss Hacende, our first queen, somehow managed to train one of these wild, aggressive hydras. I'll never know how she managed. While, yes, she did meet the hydra when it was barely hatched, it was a miracle that she was able to get it to listen. Even still, she did and now the Miasma is the symbol of her family and our kingdom. It's three headed form is emblazoned on our flags, our weapons and our hearts.
