The Coruscare Coup
Can one battle really change the course of a civilization? Can a single general really rally a force great enough to force the hand of a government? Can one day really alter everything one know? Can one man really inspire such confidence that would crumble a republic and instill an empire?
The Conflict
Prelude
In the years leading up to the coup, General Eligius Iacomus Coruscare started to become unhappy with the republic government and the senate leading the way. Watching as the vaults were depleted, the armies spread thin and the populace beginning to suffer, he decided he couldn't stand by. Action must be taken.
Deployment
General Coruscare took his legion, the 41st, and three others, the 15th, 31st and 22nd, and split them into sections. Each legion attacked the capital, Sol, from one of the four cardinal directions.
Battlefield
Just outside and within the walls of Sol. Strict orders were given to not harm the civilians, General Coruscare needed them on their side.
Conditions
A rare rainy day, of which General Coruscare used to his advantage. His four legions were used to battle in the rain but the 1st legion, the legion that protected Sol, rarely saw rain, leaving them unaccustomed to the slick conditions.
The Engagement
When the battle began, civilians fled indoor while the soldiers of the 1st and 2nd, who were not originally meant to be there, legion tried to hold their lines. It was a blood bath. The rain made it difficult for the desert trained soldiers while the coastal armies knew how the rain could batter against ones armor and make it difficult to hold ones footing or weapon. General Coruscare and his legions marched though the city, heading for the senate hall. The guards fell at his and his men's blades. A number of senators tried to resist and were also killed, the rest surrendered. It was all over by dawn the next day and the city, now theirs, saw its' streets run red with bloody rainwater.
Outcome
Shock rippled throughout the land as they suddenly found themselves in an empire. A bloody mess in Sol. The first three years were unstable but they soon found their footing. General Coruscare was crowned emperor on 2459/15/8.
Aftermath
The Coruscaren empire began to grow rapidly, gaining power, resources and recognition.
Historical Significance
Technological Advancement
The Coruscaren empire pioneers tech and equipment in order to battle their magical neighbors. This was not a major focus during the republic. Emperor Coruscare witnessed what Casters could do with their power, especially the Yoruian shapeshifters and the Eiresiren Necromancers, and wanted to ensure that they would not threaten the boarders as they expanded towards their lands.
