Diaspora of Advarsel
Diagrams coming soon
The Barony of Advarsel includes the city of its namesake, and the surrounding areas. The inhabitants thereof are called Bwrddro and Bwrddraes, and hail primarily from the Sedge Moors, and secondarily from Crow Steppe and Serpent's Fjords.
Physical Appearance
The people of Bwrdd are fair skinned and dark haired, and often tall. Most have darkly colored eyes, but certain bloodlines carry lighter colors. Their faces are generally heart- or square-shaped, with wide nostrils, narrow eyes, and small ears. The average skin tone among tundra dwellers is darker than those of the Moors, and the degree of melanin increases in higher altitudes of the Downs.
Domiciles
Steppes dwellers build wedge-shaped houses that face opposite the wind, and plate their roofs with slate tiles cut from the Downs Canyon. The tiles are layered following the direction of the wind to prevent them from blowing away. The walls of their homes are built using blocks of basalt, mud bricks, or a mixture of the two. Cracks in the walls are sealed with mortar made from ground limestone and river water. Those brave enough can make paint from the Erbyn Dŵr plant, which works as a water-proofing agent.
Apparel and Fashion
To protect themselves from the high winds, Bwrddro wear thick cloaks made from the hides of the Red Stag. Fox and Marmot furs, and embellishments of Salamander tusks, are popular among wealthier individuals. Common people use wool from Downs Sheep and cloth spun from the fibers of Moor grasses. Leather belts and wool wraps are widely used to hold heat close to the body.
Industry
Transportation
Transportation of goods across the Moors utilizes low sleds, which are drawn by load-bearing animals like Drakes or Caribou. Wheeled carts have recently been introduced within the city of Advarsel, but are still not as popular as livestock packs. Travel by an individual person is most commonly done on foot, or by riding a Caribou. Many private citizens cannot afford to keep Caribou of their own and opt to rent one from a stable when necessary.
