Ancient Hagis
In modern historiography, ancient Hagis refers to Hagian civilization from the founding of the city of Hagis in the 9th century BC to the collapse of the Southern Hagis Empire in the late-17th century AD. It encompasses the Hagis Kingdom (978–491 BC), Hagis Republic (491–17 BC) and Hagis Empire (17 BC–697 AD) until the fall of the southern empire.
Ancient Hagis began as an Hagic settlement, traditionally dated to 978 BC, beside the bay of Jeniic in the Hagialian valley. The settlement grew into the city and polity of Hagis, and came to control its neighbors through a combination of treaties and military strength. It eventually dominated the Hagialian valley, and acquired an Empire that took in much of Hazura, and the nation-states surrounding the Turden. It was among the largest empires in the ancient world, with an estimated 25 to 38 million inhabitants, roughly 30% of the Caniic's population at the time as well as the 2% of the Tigriic's population during the late empire. It covered around 3 million square kilometres (1.1 million square miles) at its height in AD 878.
The Hagis state evolved from an hierarchical monarchy to a democratic classical republic and then to an increasingly autocratic semi-elective military monarchy during the Empire. Through conquest, cultural, and linguistic assimilation, at its height it controlled more than 27% of southern and central Hazura, Andraciic, North Acluth, West Struyix, and most of the Turden islands. It is often grouped into classical antiquity together with ancient Andraciic, and their similar cultures and societies are known as the Andraco-Hagisan world.
Founding myth
According to the founding myth of Hagis, the city was founded on 25 Otorbriic 978 BC on the banks of the Jeniic Bay in eastern Hagial (modern-day Corga), by the White Twins Iveer and Avacaria, who descended from the Sureniic prince Xavieax, and who were grandson and granddaughter of Aleniic King Ithin.[more coming soon]

Ancient Hagis boasted impressive technological feats, using many advancements through the middle ages and not rivaled again until the 20th century. One such innovation is wall insulation, which was not invented again until the early 1970s. Many practical Hagisian innovations were adopted in Corgiic designs. Advancements were often divided and based on craft. Artisans guarded technologies as trade secrets.[more coming soon]
