Communication Networks

Human Networks

Civilian

In civilian contexts, communication channels such as Public COMMs play a significant role in keeping the public informed and entertained. These channels, which can be compared to modern-day television or the internet, provide a platform for broadcasting a variety of programs and news to the masses. Similar to television networks, Public COMMs host a range of channels, including all-news channels for staying updated on current events. However, Public COMMs go beyond just news broadcasts and cater to a wider audience. They also air cartoons and other programs that offer casual viewing options for individuals. These channels serve as a hub for entertainment and information, providing a source of relaxation and enjoyment.   The integration of holo-pads into public COMM networks further enhances the accessibility and connectivity of these channels. Each holo-pad is assigned a unique address, enabling individuals to tune into their favorite channels or retrieve relevant information easily. This interconnectedness allows users to stay connected and enjoy the content of their choice conveniently. Moreover, COMM addresses are used for official broadcasts sent to all communication devices on a given planet. Authorized personnel, such as Planetary Governors and high-ranking officials, have the authority to initiate such transmissions. This ensures that crucial information, such as emergency alerts or important announcements, can reach the entire population swiftly and efficiently.

Military

Military COMM Channels, also known as Military Communication Channels, play a vital role in the operations of the United Space Command Armed Forces units. These radio communication systems enable instantaneous contact between individuals, ships, and military bases, ensuring efficient coordination and exchange of information. With a diverse range of frequencies and networks dedicated to specific tasks, the COMM systems provide a seamless communication infrastructure for the armed forces.   The significance of COMM networks is further highlighted by their integration into various platforms. From armor systems to vehicles and ships, these systems are deemed essential equipment. They ensure effective communication between different components of the armed forces, enabling swift decision-making and coordination on the battlefield. Moreover, human colonies situated across different planets and moons often rely on communication relays to maintain contact. These relays act as crucial links to orbiting satellites, facilitating communication between colonies and providing a means to relay information across vast distances. Such networks of communication relays establish a reliable infrastructure that connects distant colonies and ensures seamless communication between them.

USC COMM channels and systems

United Space Command (USC) relies on a variety of communication channels and systems to facilitate efficient and effective military operations and tactical support. These channels play a crucial role in maintaining communication among USC personnel in different settings, such as battlefield management, emergency situations, fleet command, groundside operations, and high-level command.   Combat COMM: stands as the principal military communications network utilized by USC for battlefield management and tactical support. This distributed combat management and communication network enables real-time information exchange and coordination among USC forces in the field. Combat COMM ensures that commanders have access to the most up-to-date information, resulting in improved situational awareness and decision-making capabilities.   In emergencies, USC relies on E-COMM, an emergency communication channel that operates on a rarely used public frequency. This channel serves as a means of urgent communication during critical situations, allowing swift response and coordination among USC personnel. While E-COMM is often unused due to its reserved nature, it stands ready to provide a reliable means of communication during times of crisis.   FLEETCOMM, an abbreviation for Fleet Command, involves the utilization of public frequencies around the planet Harmony. This communication channel allows for broadcasts that can reach any USC ship within range of the sender. FLEETCOMM is an essential means of maintaining contact with USC ships during fleet operations, ensuring seamless communication and coordination across the fleet.   For groundside communications, USC relies on GROUNDNET, a comprehensive communications network designed to facilitate effective communication among USC personnel on land. GROUNDNET enables communication between ground forces, command centers, and other units involved in ground operations. This network ensures clear and uninterrupted communication, enhancing situational understanding and supporting effective decision-making on the ground.   HIGHCOM, shorthand for "High Command," serves as a dedicated channel for contacting and communication with ranking officers in USC High Command. This communication channel facilitates the exchange of critical information, directives, and strategic instructions between USC leaders at the highest levels of command. HIGHCOM ensures that high-ranking USC personnel are connected and informed, enabling them to effectively oversee and guide USC operations.   To communicate with orbiting satellites and relay important information, USC relies on SATCOM, which stands for Satellite Communication. SATCOM frequencies are specifically reserved for communication with orbiting satellites and relays. These frequencies serve various purposes, including relaying information to orbiting ships or stations and communicating with personnel or units in different areas of a planet. Importantly, SATCOM is only usable when COMM stations are in orbit, ensuring consistent and reliable communication with satellites and other orbital assets.

Hivivian Networks

The Hivivian uses various communications technologies of both Shalgan and Shilizal design. The combat network, or combatnet, is one known application of Hivivian military communications technology.
