The Great Weston Plains

In the centre of the Weston continent is the Great Weston Plain, a vast expanse of grass and the occasional copse of trees that stretches 800 kilometres from west to east, and 500 kilometres from north to south. Running down the middle of the plains are the Keylow Hills, an offshoot of the Frosthill Mountains that mark the southern edge of the plains. For the most part, the plains are devoid of any human influence; the soils are too infertile and the weather too unpredictable for any meaningful farming, although there are herds of camels and wild horses that criss-cross the interior. The presence of leucrotta, bulette and even such creatures as chimera and dragons that have come down from the mountains, also serve to make the region inhospitable.   Despite the time savings, very few traders are willing to take the risk of crossing the plains, instead sticking to the much safer Great Weston Road. A few daring attempts are made on occasion, but most are never heard of again. The few that do succeed are enough to fuel further foolhardy attempts.
