Grey Man Species in Ion Tides | World Anvil

Grey Man

Grey men? Don't tell me you believe in that ancient conspiracy too.

The Grey Men were an advanced, ancient species that inhabited much of the galaxy in Antiquity, but apparently fell into decline and more or less vanished by the time the First Solar Empire began its expansion across the stars. Believed by most to be fully extinct, modern rumours of sightings are commonly believed to be and dismissed as mere conspiracy theories.

Little Greys

No living members of the species have been officially observed, so much of what is known about the Grey Men has been extrapolated from archaeological sites and autopsies of mummified specimens.   Closely resembling the classical depictions of "grey aliens" from old Terran myths, they were humanoid in appearance, shorter than both humans and Kith with spindly limbs and drastically enlarged heads and eyes. Despite sharing many similarities with modern Terran mammals, they were completely hairless, with wrinkly skin that was various shades of grey. It is believed that they were adapted for lower gravity than humans and kith are, as their hollow bones were too fragile and their musculature too weak to resist anything above one third of standard Terran gravity.

Ancient Architecture

Despite widespread evidence of Grey Man habitation across the galaxy, few signs of their structures and settlements still remain on the surfaces of the worlds they lived on. From the relatively few examples of Grey Man architecture, it seems that they were fond of rounded shapes and discs, with many structures resembling flattened mushrooms or other fungi.
