Nocticula

The Redeemer Queen

Nocticula is one of the deities who ascended well after The Arcanaclysm occurred. Once one of the demon lords who fought for control over Iotelos, she switched sides when she betrayed another demon, and ascended to be the patron god over those she had once persecuted.   Nocticula is often only seen attending court in settlements loyal to her in The Weeping Lands. She very rarely seen outside of this, though there are reports of her guiding refugees to safety or providing inspiration to artists.

Appearance

Nocticula is depicted as a tall, beautiful woman with pink skin above the knee and grey-haired goat legs and hooves below the knee. Out of her back, she has a pair of pink bat wings covered in glowing arcane runes. She has three thin tails wrapped each tipped with a curved dagger.   She wears her hair in a complex seven horned hairdo, each with a sharp silver cap.   Prior to her ascension, she had the feature and body similar to most other succubi. She had white skin with dark hair, and talons instead of nails on her hands. Her bat wings were red, and her tails were tipped with a stinger at the end of each. Her goat legs were stony in appearance with the glow of magma pushing through the cracks.

Identifying Features

For rather obvious reasons, it is easy to tells Nocticula apart from regular mortals. However, some might question what identifies her from other devils. Pink and purple coloring is uncommon even amongst succubi and inccubi. Her mannerisms have changed, and she acts more noble and refined. She also lacks the smell of fire and brimstone that accompany all other devils.

Apparel

Most common day depictions of Nocticula show her in her divine form, with the pink skin and purple hair. She is often seen wearing a royal blue sleeveless dress with silver details that reaches to the floor to hide her goat hooves. She adorns her tails with blue ribbons of various length. Older depictions from before her ascension show her in her succubus form, scarcely dressed, sitting upon a throne or in a suggestive pose.   Historical depictions are stored in secret and secure places by her followers, but newer versions of this depiction are removed when they are found. This depiction is considered harmful to Nocticula's current beliefs, but the historical versions are kept as reminders of her past sins.

History

Nocticula was one of the seven demon lords and ladies that came through the planar portal during the Arcanaclysm. Like the rest of the devils, she waged war on the inhabitants of The Weeping Lands, scheming and killing her way to greater power. As the overseer of assassinations and succubi, she quickly gained power. When Lamashtu discovered a runestone that allowed anybody to achieve divinity, Nocticula accompanied Karzoug to the source. As he was about to ascend, she killed him and took it for herself, before shattering the runestone and scattering its pieces away.   At this point she broke away from the rest of the demons and fell in with the refugees her war created. The followers she once had were turned upon by the other demons and their cults, either be assimilated into their followers or destroyed. A few loyal, powerful followers turned their cities and settlements into bastions to house the refugees, and provide a place for the people to fight back against their invaders.

Tenets of Faith

Nocticula welcomes those who have been shunned and cast out. Those that wish to follow in her footsteps:
  • Create art true to themselves
  • Protect marginalized people
  • Punish those who take advantage of offered trust and shelter
Those who act in the following ways draw the ire of Nocticula and her followers
  • Deny shelter to the desperate
  • Destroy harmless art
  • Finish a work of art during daylight hours

Priesthood

There are no recognized priests of Nocticula. Within The Weeping Lands and her temples there, custodians will generally oversee maintenance and upkeep of the temples, and organize any sermons or events, but these people do not have any special title or power that would typically be granted to a priest of a deity.

Worship

Artists will often make offerings as they continue to make progress on their works. Refugees may carry a small figurine of Nocticula for luck, and to try and increase the chances of being given shelter. Temples to Nocticula can only be found in The Weeping Lands, where prayers and offerings are made to the Redeemer Queen after the towns have been liberated from the Demon Hordes.   There is still a small sect of radicals that believe Nocticula will slip back into her old domains. These heretics do not have any power granted by Nocticula herself, but they may have gained power through other means. While this sect is small, they pose a threat to those that have come to wearingly trust Nocticula and her followers.   Offerings
Offerings made by Nocticula's followers are typically pieces or artwork that are dedicated to her. With no widespread clergy to oversee the collection and distribution of resources, currency and other material offerings aren't very common.

Quests

Quests set by Nocticula are typically small operations carried out by only a handful of people, but they may have a much larger impact. Minor tasks include painting a mural condemning a political leader or celebrating a marginalized person or culture, or accepting a refugee for a night before they continue their travels.   Quests may also include tracking down Nocticula's sect of heretics and putting a stop to their schemes and plans.   Major quests may include liberation of a small village considered insignificant, or the extraction of a person or item. Nocticula may also request an assassination in rare circumstances, where she will hand pick the team personally.
