Sarenrae

The Dawnflower

A celestial before The Arcanaclysm, Sarenrae has held a soft spot for Iotelos for a long time. With The Arcanaclysm and her quick ascension to divinity, she became a beacon for the people of Iotelos, and a powerful beacon to keep the new monsters of darkness away.   She travels across Iotelos, no place seems to be out of her reach. Some like to say that she is the sun, and wherever sunlight can reach, she can to. She appears before peasants and nobility alike, always willing to aid those in need.

Appearance

Sarenrae's defining feature is the pair of golden feathered wings on her back. She commonly wears a blue and gold tunic typically seen in areas such as Rahma or Izmir. Her clothing may shift though depending on who she is addressing or the kingdom she is visiting. Her feet are either bare, or she wears sandals commonly found in warmer climates.

History

Sarenrae took more interest in Iotelos than other celestials prior to The Arcanaclysm. She would often converse with the people of Iotelos that would summon her using Electrum relics. She would do what she could to help people with their problems and ailments, but it was limited by the barrier between planes. When The Arcanaclysm occurred and the wars began, she didn't directly take part. Instead, she would travel between battlegrounds and save those that she could. She would accompany villagers as they fled from their homes. She inspired a large and loyal following, people from all cultures and races, from the poorest peasant to the richest noble. These followers would become the Church of Sarenrae, the largest religious following in Iotelos even in the present day.

A Small Golden Flower

One of the symbols of Sarenrae is the Dawnflower. While this is the common title for Sarenrae, it is also the name of an uncommon flower found in Iotelos. This flower is small, growing no taller than a foot and with a flower head that has a typical radius of 2 inches. The flower has a golden tinge to it, and it will always point towards the source of light. When the weather is heavily overcast or it is night time, the petals fold up, and the flower emits a faint golden glow. The glow is not enough to light up a significant area, but it a meadow of Dawnflowers can make a beautiful sight from dusk until dawn.

Worship

Worship for Sarenrae is common in Iotelos. Worshippers will often have something on them with Sarenrae's holy symbol, from a pendant to a ring or bracelet or broach. Some might carry a figurine or have one on display in their homes. Worshipping as part of a congregation is a common activity. Many people who worship other gods will also make smaller offerings to Sarenrae, if they can afford it.   Offerings
Offerings to Sarenrae are typically small amounts of gold or food. The clerics of Sarenrae stress that only that which can be spared should be offered. Offerings of food and resources are often used to feed the homeless, starving, or anyone else in desperate need. Monetary offerings are used to build infirmaries and clinics.

Granted Divine Powers

Sarenrae may grant her followers more powerful healing when it is needed. To the upper level of her followers and clergy, she lends them the power of her voice, potentially allowing them to avoid combat and bloodshed.

Quests

Quests set by Sarenrae are typically a fight against evil. Her adventurers seek out Rovagug's cultists to prevent their plans from coming to fruition. Her quests may also be to collect a rare plant or herb as a remedy to an illness.    New followers of Sarenrae may be tasked with a personal pilgrimage for redemption. They may be tasked with righting a past wrong that they themselves committed, or another wrong of significance. These quests are sometimes dangerous, but not unreasonably so. Detractors of Sarenrae still claim that she sends her followers to their death.
