Moon Gems of Zophos

In the time before time, the Lashe hero Zophos adored Naikara, daughter of Priachus, god of Dreams. As mortal, he despaired at his chances of winning her heart. He dove to the bottom of the sea to fetch her the rarest mollusk. He delved deep into the ground to bring her the rarest stones. He used these to craft her an amulet and earrings. When he brought them to her father's temple, she laughed. "Love will not be bought! What nonsense." But seeing his dejected face, she assured him she was not angry and welcomed him to worship. In the months that followed, they did fall in love - a true love not purchased with baubles. Zophos kept the gift she never accepted in a velvet-lined box, a reminder of their beginning.   But Priachus was watching all this while, vexed by this presumptuous mortal. When it became clear that Naikara returned Zophos' feelings, Priachus banished the hero to Ai'ehor, the underworld. Furious, Naikara took up her lover's gift and wore them for the first time as she entered hell to find him.
This legendary set of jewelry consists of a pair of earrings and an amulet, all made with Cynad shell embedded in Psechricite rondelles.   In modern times, the location of only one earring is known, held in a private collection despite many attempts to buy, steal, or bargain for it. It is assumed that the remaining earring and amulet are in the ruins of Hamat'e.

Manufacturing process

Most magic is crafted with purpose - a sharper sword, a bowl that fills itself with nourishment, boots that make a journey shorter. These are practical items that sentients use to make their days easier, and many arcanists enter their training not to explore the wonders of magic, but to make a business from the production of such relatively mundane items.   But the magic that makes itself, born of grief or will or joy so strong that threads of fate are drawn in and coalesce... now that is rare and marvelous.

The gems, though rare, were crafted polished and assembled through everyday means, they were never enchanted, so the legend goes. It was Naikara's devotion to Zophos that mingled with the arcane energy of Ai'ehor to infuse the items. The single earring only hints at possibilities, and arcanists who have been allowed to view it agree that the full set has some unique unknown power.
