Rundle Plains

The semi-arid Rundles are dominated by bunchgrass and boxbushes. Wild telopha herds meander, hunted by packs of nimble jewel foxes. Argantish legend holds that the crater that holds the city was created when the god Morvenu Trueworthy dropped his ball from the sky.

Geography

Shades of red and brown-tinged greens dominate the flat landscape that seems to extend forever in all directions. With almost no vegetation taller than four feet, the plains offer little in the way of shade or hiding places. Locals claim their sky is bigger than anyone else's.   The huge crater that contains the city of Argantael is an anomaly in the mostly featureless plains. Its high walls offer the settlement some protection from the fierce storms that blow across the land.

Fauna & Flora

Living things in the Rundles tend to the short and stout. The most abundant plant other than grasses, called boxbushes, grow up to three feet tall. Their semi-succulent leaves provide food for many small animals and are even grazed upon by the mighty telopha sometimes.   The most active predators are the stocky jewel foxes and the broad, black lizards known as apha.   Jewel foxes are mossy green with large eyes that shine in brilliant colors from emerald to topaz. They hunt in small packs, usually 5 to 9 in number, using team tactics to take down larger prey, but also delighting in charging amongst gatherings of smaller creatures to grab snacks. (A famous passage from [insert book and author here] describes a pack of green foxes scattering a flock of bright yellow mansary birds against the backdrop of a striking sunset. It is a celebrated piece of Argantish writing.)   Apha trundle through the grass on six short legs, their wedge-shaped heads swinging back and forth as they search for food. To the uninitiated they look comical, but locals know to be wary of their powerful jaws. More than one child has been carried off by an aph seeking a change in diet.
