Lizardfolks of Kipto

The lizardfolks currently inhabiting the southern part of Kipto Isle are descendants of three distinctive groups that arrived on the island around the same time at the end of divine silence. These groups banded together, shared their cultures, and combined them into one. They hold a strong focus on their ancestry and on who their ancestors were. However, it is unknown where the specific groups originated from before arriving on the island.

Culture

Culture and cultural heritage

The group is strongly focused on ancestry and family trees. Most of the rites and traditions revolve around knowledge about their ancestor and preserving this knowledge. The most important cultural site where most of these rites take place is the Cave of Roots.

Foods & Cuisine

As a hunter-gatherer society, most of the food they consume consists of hunted meat and gathered fruit or roots. The Culinary tradition is barely developed and even though they possess knowledge of agriculture as evidenced by them growing medicinal herbs they seems to refuse to grow their food.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

Within a few days after the birth of a new member of the group, the parents take the newborn and venture into the Cave of Roots. There they record the name of the newborn to the walls of the cave under the guidance of one of the keepers of the cave. The newborn then leaves a handprint next to their name.

Coming of Age Rites

When one reaches maturity they descend into the Cave of Roots once again. They are brought by a keeper to where their name is recorded. From there they have to trace their way through their ancestors to the first ones who arrived on the island. When they arrive at the surface the keeper will ask them the name of the first one from whom they are descended.

Common Taboos

These lizardfolks consider themself of the island and questioning where their ancestors came from is strictly forbidden. Additionally growing food seems to also be forbidden even with the knowledge of agriculture. They also possess relatively advanced knowledge of shipbuilding that also seems to be forbidden from utilizing as sailing to far from coast is forbbiden.
