Street of the Calatai

Ilvar Calatai

The Street of Calatai has one main purpose: to create disorder. This may seem undesirable at first glance, but this chaos construct ensures that no world is deterministic. In other words, it is not predetermined in any way. This circumstance also ensures that Equilibrium, the greatest enemy of the Realm of Silence, can only exert its influence on the Realm of Silence and all worlds to a limited extent.
The road causes unpredictable events in those worlds – both small and large. No power can influence it or predict its influence.
Some worlds use the Ilvar Calatai to override the laws of nature – that is, to be able to work magic.

Etymology

The word Cala in the first language of the first world means: randomness. Fully translated it means: Ilvar Calatai; with Ilvar for "road". The suffix -tai expresses the genitive of Ilvar to Cala. Other words used include: Street of Fortune, Street of Dice, Band of Chaos, the Great Tangle, Street of Tangles.

The Equilibrium and the Ilvar Calatai

The street is the target of numerous attacks by the Equilibrium. Its desire to maintain order makes this construct of chaos its de facto main target. In some cases, the Equilibrium succeeded in the degression of some secondary road, turning certain areas of the respective affected world into a "wasteland of history".

Degression through Equilibrium

Case in point: Shadhar – an ancient entity of the Equilibrium – had almost managed to wipe out an author of Iranthi with the help of her phantasm, which she had dispatched via the Ilvar Calatai. However, the author, residing in Laniakea (the world with the planet called Earth), heroically faced this phantasm. Had Shadhar succeeded, presumably the Chronicles of Iranthi would have been doomed to eternal stagnation. In that sense, the Ilvar Calatai was also misused by the Equilibrium.

The Chronists of the Last Bulwark

The road is used by the Chronists of the Last Bulwark to travel between worlds. (The Last Bulwark is the heart of those chronists, and is currently even used by some protagonists. Authors have not yet been present). In some cases, the chronists use the Ilvar Calatai to send protagonists to a world subject to the threat of the Equilibrium.

Utility

In addition to its primary intended use, the Ilvar Calatai can be used for various other things, such as a random number generator. Technologically, this is possible through quantum technology in Laniakea. Other worlds use other measures. The Chronists, for example, use calatai cubes that are connected to the Ilvar Calatai itself. And in Iranthi they use the astrometry of the eight moons, which cannot always be predicted (in detail).
Another use is the Ilvar Calatai as a "world road". This makes it possible to switch between worlds. However, this is only possible to a limited extent and requires a lot of experience on the part of the world-walker.
Some use the Ilvar Calatai to change materials. The final material could then be anything. There is a lot of expertise behind the principle of transmutation, and not every world is (currently) capable of this technology. So far, no one has figured out how to transform a material a second time. And finally: Magic and the supernatural in general.

Trivia

The Ilvar Calatai has neither beginning nor end. However, a legend says that this is not the case, and that it probably has a beginning as well as an end. In particular, the following incident is significant, and should someone discover the beginning of the Ilvar Calatai, they would find all the answers to all the questions ever asked, and if they discover the end, the answers to questions that have not yet been asked. The latter case, however, is controversial, as this fact would associate the Ilvar Calatai to a deterministic construct.

Appearance

The Street of the Calatai manifests itself, as its name suggests, as a street or ribbon in the firmament of the Realm of Silence. It has innumerable side roads. Most of these side roads are connected, as it were, to one of the worlds. Approaching it (in case one is capable of flight in the Realm of Silence) only makes the road appear gradually larger - but one would never reach it. It iridesces and sparkles, but mostly appears more as a white branchy construct - something like a large complex lightning bolt with the texture of the Milky Way.
