The Dark One's ring

The Dark One ring was sent to Ire from the Dark God. First gifted to the Nathair but has since moved on. It created the first Dark One and bound itself to them. When the Nathair put on the ring they were filled with it's magic and became the first dark one. The Dark One can keep remove the ring and keep their powers but if another being puts on the ring the Dark One will die and whoever put the ring on becomes the new Dark One, this is the darkness passing from one vessel to another. The darkness is so strong that it kills the ex-dark one when it leaves them.
The nature of this ring is how the Dark One has persisted for all of time. It lives by passing from one to another, whoever puts on the ring.
