The Serpent Sages

The Serpent Sages are the oldest magical guild. They date back to the very first days of the Nathair. Even before the capital city was built and before the Nathair had a king. There are five master sages who have been there since the beginning. These five serve as advisors to the Nathair's king. These five are also entrusted with the great duty of keeping the devourer bound and underground. The devourer can only be awoken by all five sages.
Despite their name the Serpent Sages have others in their guild as well. Any Nathair from any tribe who has the potential for magic can join and be taught by the Sages in the ways of the old magic. However once one joins the guild it is a lifelong commitment. The Sages have many students who learn and protect the old magic.
The Serpent Sages reside in a temple far east of the capital city. This is were ancient spell books and secrets are held. Some believe they hide the devourer under the temple but no one but The Five Sages know where the devourer is truly hidden, not even the king.
