A few years ago I published an admittedly too brief and vague informal report that began to summarize our knowledge of the god's and goddess' nature and their relationship with mortals. I have been working on a separate, proper, well book breaking down what we know and going into further details not discussed in that report, but I wanted to first release yet another, far too informal report answering the questions that I had left unanswered at the end of that report.
First the Questions I left off on:
Why are there so many Deities if their domains get stronger with more followers? We have come to the conclusion, after discussing with several Clerics capable of communing with their gods that it is intentional. Basically, the Deities prefer a situation with many other, sane Deities as it helps them during the periods of conflict with those evil entities seeking to consume the souls of others. Why would they not consolidate or fight more fiercely for their followers to secure their own domains as much as possible? Again, it is intentional. The reason follows the same principal as Diminishing Marginal Returns from Economics as I understand it. The premise that in this situation, the first 100, 1000, 100,000 etc souls who join a Deities domain offer the most benefits, but at some point there is little difference btw say a million and 10 million souls as a general example. To be clear, I do NOT know or pretend to know the scale or ratio of the quantity to benefits that affects these machinations. I merely used these numbers as an example to illustrate the point. Why do we have this situation and environment of these Deities generally cooperating and cohabitating as religions within societies? Continuing the example from earlier, if there is little difference in an INDIVIDUAL's power between 1 million and 10 million souls, then there is more benefit to the Deities fighting force when there are 10 allied or cooperative Deities each with 1 million souls than 1 with 10. There are then a few other reasons we suspect affect this decision. In general, there is also an undoubted social aspect to the relationship between Deities that likely plays a role as well.
