Durava t'Asman

Durava t'Asman is considered among the greatest acrobatic performers of all time, gathering talent from all over the world, and having several troupes travelling around and performing for all comers. Their performances typically center around aerial shows - the trapeze, high wire, and other such events - and are often crafted as an visual representation of well known plays. It is through this focus that they have earned their name, which translates to "The Court of Heaven" or "The Court of the Sky".

Structure

Durava t'Asman has 4 troupes, each led by a Choreographer, each of whom is a retired acrobat who led a particularly exemplary career and survived to the point that age has robbed them of their ability to perform at peak level. These Choreographers know eachother and keep in touch through the use of a set of Sending Stones, which bear an enchantment that allows convenient long distance communication with the bearer of the other half of each set.   In addition to general leadership, each Choreographer is responsible for planning out each act and coordinating training in the acts among the performers. Each has a wealth of experience working with performers of a variety of different species and body types, and is expected to be able to make the most of the various strengths each individual brings to the show. Choreographers give up their stage name when they rise to this role, officially becoming a continuation of the character of "The Choreographer," though those familiar with Durava t'Asman performances usually recognize new Choreographers by their old title.   Behind the scenes, the troupe is also led by the Engineer, though few outside of the organization recognize their existence, or that of those working under them. The Engineer and their team are responsible for constructing the stage and the stands. At each stop the errect a big top - a pavillion style tent about 50 meters tall and 100 meters in diameter under the cover of darkness, as well as a few areas for smaller displays of floor acrobatics or other forms of entertainment. Each day, the tent is opened to the crowds, and each night, the Engineer and their team continue to work, assembling stands and stage piece by piece, until they finally have it ready for the main performance, which is repeated for several nights, before they reverse the process, packing everything away piecemeal so the troupe can move on to its next stop.   A variety of other performers travel with the troupe - singers, play actors, musicians, even slight of hand performers, jugglers and magicians. There is only one art that cannot be seen at some point during a Durava t'Asman show, and that is magic, except in a dramatic unveiling of the artifacts they use to suppress magic at the start of the major performances. Many of their best acts would be simple to reproduce through magical means - the art is that they do so purely through physical skill and clever trickery.

Public Agenda

Durava t'Asman is a group of dedicated, tireless performers whose only goal is to bring joy into the lives of commoner and noble alike. While they are most open about this as it relates to their great performances, and the lesser acts in the days before and after them, they are also known, now and then, to assist those in dire need in travelling, most often in the form of helping those who face persecution, either due to unjust law or due to false accusation (as determined by several members of the troupe - they will only shelter an accused murderer or traitor if they are truly convinced of the individual's innocence.)

This is fun and I'd die to see some of the craziest shots from their performance.

I'm honestly not sure how I'd describe their performances. I've only seen small bits of high end acrobatics work, so I'd largely be going by guesswork as to how it would work. (It's guesswork anyway to figure out what role a minotaur or a halfling might play in such a performance, but I don't even have the basis for a human-only performance. (And while some travelling shows feature people with height challenges, those tend to be of dramatically lower quality.) Glad I captured your imagination, though!

I'd love to see them perform. And thank you for pointing out the crew! They're so often left out in world building, despite the fact that they *are* the world builders within the world. Well done :)

I studied engineering - they teach people to be quite analytical about just how things get done. Plus I've seen a documentary on Cirque de Soleil's crews, and they're even more impressive than these guys. Granted, they benefit from power tools and modern manufacturing and transport technologies, but the kind of stuff they pull off is astounding even by modern standards that account for those advantages.

This sounds like fun - I wish I could see one of their shows! I like that they make a big show of the magic suppression at the beginning so that the audience know that there is no magical trickery involved. :D
