Tharnom
"Honest, trustworthy and honorful. Though they have their own code and law that is enforced. Many people consider it a suggestion. Those who act noticably can be called in front of the counsel of knights to justify their actions."
"The spiral city of Tharnom"
Crest: The crest of the city is an image of a golden ram, head forward as if preparing for a ram. This can be seen in various places.
Demographics
The city's inhabitants consist of almost solely dwarfs. Here and there only a few other races can be found but are staggeringly rare.
The city is elegantly divided; The highest class lives near the higher regions, while the lower classes live lower. This change is not a full stop or sectioned off, but very slowly and deliberately. The reason the lower part is considered lower class is because it is the closest to the endless excavation activities of the dwarves. Though miners are definitely not looked down upon, it is known as some of the less paying jobs in the city.
Government
The city is led by the ring of knights. This ring of knights consists out of the following dwarves:
- Bhabor
- Thurman
- Daerren
- Belthran
- Tishma
- Beliggs
Defences
The cities location provides a significant amount of natural protection from attack. Especially seeing as the city only has a few entrances to the outside world.
To protect the main entrance, the maze was built. Since Tharnom does not often converse with the above world these is little traversed tunnels attracts various wild monstrosities to live there. Traversing this maze is nigh impossible without a guide. (Some walls are warm to the touch as they're next to some of the furnaces, the guide will use this to feel if he's going in the right direction.) The hallways are also filled with traps to avoid strangers from going through. These traps will cause the victim to fall down, when downstairs a small crawl space will lead the victim to the foot of the mountain.
Infrastructure
The city is made of two rings, the inner and outer ring. The inner ring is mostly used for taverns and domiciles, whilst the outer ring is reserved for commerce. This was done as the outer ring is much busier than the more quaint inner ring, save for the few taverns that are present in it. Both rings consist of about 8 elevations which are all fully utilized.
The walls and ground are all made of carved stone. Various dwarven patterns can be seen across the masonry present in the city. Very little of the carvings appear just for aesthetics, and most are very direct to serve a purpose. The doorways are small, about 150cm tall.
The middle pillar is connected by 4 smaller made pillars. These pillars pierce the central piece from two ends, holding it in place. These pillars are, simultaneously used as walkways to traverse from inner to outer ring. These are present on each second layer (2, 4, 6 and 8 with 8 being partly merged with the ceiling). Various points in the pillars are inlaid with white brightstone (A magical gem which emits a bright sun-like light to its surroundings.)
