A language that was once considered vile, uncivilized and on the same level as
Orc or
Goblin by most cultures and depending on who you ask they may still identify it as such. Common speakers of this language are known to be primarily
Reptilians, large reptiles and beings that dwell in swamps have also been known to at least understand this language and there are few reports of them being able to speak it as well. The script has long been thought to be influenced by
Draconic, the script is perfectly suited to be made using large and wide claws with a distinct spacing between letters and that is difficult to smudge.
The earliest appearance of this language is tied to the appearance of the
Reptilians as a race, though for several decades many scholars assumed that the
Reptilians were feral creatures that were incapable of a complex language. Time revealed that this was completely wrong, Forked Tongue is a language that is capable of expressing many specific and factual ideas though it is lacking in the area of emotional expression. This is often attributed to the mannerisms of the
Reptilians as a race, they too seem to struggle with emotions beyond basic needs and have little use for art or song unless it relates to conflict or hunting. The script was a mystery briefly when it made an appearance on flags, letters that formally declared alliances and wars between factions of the
Reptilians race and their neighbors. The written component of this language appeared suddenly and fully formed during an event called the
Putrid Mud, a largescale war that took place on the
Southern Continent where the combatants were mostly composed of the
Reptilians race. During the events of this war, it was revealed that a trio of Ancient Green
Dragons were manipulating the
Reptilians factions to their own ends to act as foot soldiers in a war for territory, one of these
Dragons Mymkin is credited as the creator of the script for Forked Tongue. This language has a sizeable presence on the
Southern Continent throughout the Swamplands and among the many tribes that inhabit waterways and coastal areas.
The advantages of speaking this language are directly tied to how much you intend to interact with the native speakers. The language will gain you no special favors among the
Reptilians race but it may ensure that they understand you well enough to declare your intent for an alliance or trade, as a race the
Reptilians have little interest in learning the common languages of the world and can become hostile when defending their territory. The written script would serve you well as a form of communication when petitioning a chief for safe passage through their lands but written records are rare among even the
Shamans of the
Reptilians and being able to read this language would yield little in the way of historical value.
Interesting language. I really like that you always list the advantages of knowing the written or spoken versions of a language.
