Tucked away in the corner of a recently built room, glowing in hues of yellow and orange cast by the ornate stained glass window on the opposite wall, rests an odd object. A rough-hewn stone, a bookcase carved out of what had once been a stalactite on the ceiling of the cavern of
Mithril Mantle, now rests on the floor of the room, serving as the library of the
Adamantine Flames. Nothing more than a simple man-made stalagmite, this library has already become a center for the fledgling trading post. In the span of days since the adventurers established
Mithril Mantle, the breadth of topics available in the depths of
Káto, serving as a formidable asset to the adventurers in their new home.
A library was far from the first thing on their minds as they began clearing the cavern of its dangerous stalactites and rough floors. A storeroom for foodstuffs and an inn so that they could sleep in the warmth of a building instead of a tent were at the forefronts of their minds, but the ever thinking mind of an
Alchemist, no matter how young, is not easily deterred.
Senku Ishigami, by far the youngest of the group, would not be stopped in her pursuit of knowledge so that the party could build their trading post on their own. Talks of priorities in terms of building meant little, and so, the small library became a necessity, not one to be put off for much longer.
With his many tools,
Tarr took on the project, finely crafting the bookshelf from a large stalactite that had once been on the ceiling of the cavern. With well-worn tools and roughened hands, the shelf took shape in a matter of hours under the watchful eye of the
Master Dwarf. While small, the bookshelf would hold what would become known as the Stalagmite Library, a menagerie of books on various topics that were important to the intrepid adventurers. Eventually, it could be expanded, but this simple shelf would become the center of knowledge as
Mithril Mantle was built from the ground up.
When the group cleared the ceiling of the cavern for safety reasons, a large number of stalactites remained intact, useable for many building projects within the cavern.
Senku, the group’s
Alchemist, chose to use the formation as a shelf due to its stability and the structure and inability to collect moisture in
Káto. This would serve as the perfect material in which to store books.
Tarr, the party’s
Master Dwarf, crafted the shelf through careful carving, including three shelves within the confines of the stone structure. The outer walls of the shelf are thick and provide protection to the books while the shelves are also hefty in order to handle any amount of weight and strain that the books would place on the shelf.
Ooo I love the concept of this library. I would love a bookshelf made out of a stalagtite. <3
