Stormrender

Famed Sword of the Northern Knights

Ice crystals scatter and fall through the sky as smoke clears and a dark form caked in blood rises above the landscape, the white fur of his wolf stark against the destruction that surrounds them. A blackened hand clutches a frozen sword, an item now famed for slaying the Giant prince Krojak. With the end of the Giant Wars behind them, Alaric Ylyndar, his faithful companion Ylmari, and the sword known as Stormrender became names of legend.   For centuries, Stormrender stayed at his side, a reminder of that fateful day that darkened the white of his wolf with Giant blood and nearly cost him his life. Forged by the Dwarves of the Great Furnaces and enchanted by the Elven king, Stormrender was a weapon like no other, its sole purpose to kill the Giant prince and bring an end to the Giant Wars that had devastated the Northern Outposts. It was a weapon that Alaric Ylyndar both trusted and protected with his life.   Millennia later, the name of Alaric Ylyndar's sword would be lost to history, tucked away in the pages and volumes of the Yllvalion Codex. To the Ylyndar Clan, the sword lives in the story of Alaric's Sword, a myth that one day shall return to the people of Yllvalion and the clan.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

As the blade has been lost to time, no one knows exactly what types of enchantments were placed upon the sword by the Elven king of the time. Entries in the Yllvalion Codex mention a sword capable of withstanding an extremely powerful smite merging with the inherent magical properties of the Frost Steel, a powerful ability in itself. Other accounts note other minor enchantments, but it is unsure whether these abilities and effects were from the sword or the magic that Alaric Ylyndar often employed.

Raw Materials & Components

Stormrender is a standard flamberge sword forged with Frost Steel, a specialty of the Neither Tundra. This material is somewhat volatile, often only being able to be forged in the Great Furnaces at the hands of a Master Dwarf. The Dwarves that created the sword refused to use the highest quality of Frost Steel, citing that it was a weapon that would not be kept by their people. Some patterns are still visable in the blade, marking it as a material of mid-grade or very close to high quality.   The hilt and crossguard of the sword are of another metal, but all that is known about this metal is that it is a special and secret alloy that the Dwarves for use specifically with Frost Steel weapons. This alloy is meant to protect the wielder from the cold and sometimes subzero temperatures that Frost Steel can reach, but the wielder still must wear special gloves when handling the weapon. The alloy is only meant as a small precaution, not a fail-safe.

Significance

Stormrender was a creation of epic proportions during its time due to some minor collaboration between the Dwarven Kingdom and the Elven Kingdom on the creation of the blade. Using one of the special metals of Isekai, the Dwarves forged a flamberge, a sword not often created by the hardy folk of the Great Furnaces. Once forged, the Dwarves gifted the blade to the Elven king, who enchanted the blade before giving it to the Alaric Ylyndar to be used against Krojak.   Very few weapons have the capabilities to take down a Giant, let alone one that is considered a prince. Stormrender was meant to be that impossible weapon, hopefully ending the conflict along the edge of the Neither Tundra permanently. The weapon and its wielder surpassed all expectations, becoming a prominent artifact and person in the history of the Northern Outposts.
Stormrender
This sword was gifted to Alaric Ylyndar after being enchanted by the Elven King for the sole purpose of destorying the prince of the Giants during the Giant Wars. With a single empowered smite driven through Stormrender, the Giant prince met his end.

Sounds like a really cool weapon (no pun intended). I really like the idea of frost steel and the mythology behind the blade. I wonder what would happen if someone found it one day.
