Fortress Rhuïn
Fortress Rhuïn was an ancient city thought to have been the eastermost outpost built by the same people who crafted the towers in southwestern Axia. It sits nestled in a ring of high peaks at the very tip of the Cerulean mountains, just on the border of the Vellan Dominion and the Salahidn desert.
It is one of the most naturally defensible constructions in Isesda and has used this face to its benefit. While there remains no record of its original inhabitants, or at least none that the current occupants are willing to share, the fortress is now a center of knowledge for all Raiven. Part library, part academy, part temple, Rhuïn has become respected as an independent city-state thanks to its neutrality and usefulness to all surrounding nations.
While remaining soverign so close to the Vellan border is an accomplishment many may view as the greatest thing Rhuïn could accomplish, the collected knowledge and magical study found within its walls is its true legacy.
Alterations
When the first group of Atrean explorers discovered the fortress it was overgrown with the vegetation that proliferates within the mountain ring. They found little surviving outside the metal and stone of the building itself, but while the contents may have rotted away the structures themselves proved incredibly resilient.
Short years later scholars from across Forven, Raiven, and Derathain had come to study the fortress. Due to the difficulty of acess to Rhuïn the scholars took up residence. What they collectively agreed had once been a defensible fall-back keep for the ancient civilization that created it raplidly become a research facility. The complex was revamped with living quarters, meeting chambers, and extensive libraries.
More and more writings, artifacts, and scholars arrived throughout the following decades. Some brought along apprentices who studied under not only their masters, but the other great minds collected in Rhuïn. After that point it didn't take long for aspirants to begin arriving without a master, seeking instruction.
With no clear intent from anyone, Rhuïn became something of an unofficial academy. Important individuals in Axia, Derathain, Vel, and Atreus began to see attendance at Rhuïn as a sign of status among the intellectual circles.
