Free People's Axe

There is a very small, but growing movement of Aranellans and sympathizers who seek to drive the Raivanni and Derathaini colonists from the southern land's shores. At this point they are still relatively disorganized as they face invaders from powerful nations and many Aranellans are ill equipped to combat the superior technology of the colonial forces, particularly coming from the Vellan Dominion which has shown little restraint in deploying vicious tactics against all defiance. One item that is becoming more prevalent is an import for the Raivanni mainland, a small axe used for all manner of common tasks among the colonists. Axial-made ones are the most common, but variations of this hatchet are brought into all colonies. Many natives have purchased a number of these axes from colonists in exchange for natural resources from deeper in the wilds of Aranel where the colonists don't usually venture. A small number have even begun learning how to forge these steel tools from some of the more recently arrived smiths among the Axials. They are known as the Hu'tsch Kala Pex or Free People's Axe and to the natives they have come to represent the expulsion movement's goals of turning the colonist's own viciousness against them. It is unkonwn if this name and association originated with any one group of native Aranellans or if it came to the continent along with more sympathetic colonists, though likely it is a combination of the two with a native group originating the term and the symathizers pushing it as a symbol around which the movement can take shape. What has become far more prevalent in recent days are these axes being turned on colonists as weapons. Many of the more brutal colonists, particularly the Vellans though none have been completely spared, have encountered if not their deaths then certainly serious resistance in the form of these axes flying from the shadows of the wilds or being swung with ferocity by a resistant Aranellan. This has led to a call to ban the carry of such axes by native Aranellans in the Derathaini colony, but the other colonies remain silent on the axes' place in recent attacks. Axials likely fear association since most of the axes in question are of their make, but the Vellans are undoubtedly hoping the native population will do to their neighbors what they cannot without diplomatic incident.

Most of these axes are forged steel requiring a smithy. While all older ones were imported, more recently there've been enough smiths arrive to start seeing a larger percentage of axes smithed right on Aranellan land out of Aranellan steel.
