Kanitur

These small, lupine creatures are a common sight in the Wildplains north of Axia and have become a particularly significant nuisance in the Golden Fields region. These omnivorous pests dig burrows in the soft earth of the fields and can create complex networks of tunnels. While they usually only live in small groups, five to seven members at most, they have been known to destroy entire crops between their burrowing and eating of plants. On the brighter side they are able to control the population of other pest animals via predation, including mice, rats, skunks, snakes, aindyr, and even feral dogs or pigs. They are also willing to scavenge fresh carcasses, though they will not consume meat which has begun to rot.   While they rarely attack people, they can be quite dangerous as well, particularly to livestock. In groups they will attack the eyes of smaller, weaker animals in a herd, including the young. With their target blinded they'll goad the prey into fleeing, directing it toward a lethal fall or impact. Fortunately this sort of activity is rare, usually reserved for when other food is unavailable.    Kanitur are smart animals, able to get themselves into places most creatures could not. They slip through spaces that seem to small and easily balance along roofs and rails. Moreover they are curious and will often investigate human dwellings to the detriment of the order and organization of such places. Indeed, children of the plains learned long ago that a kani entering the house was the perfect scapegoat for when they'd accidentally broken something and wanted to avoid the consequences. They are exceptionally difficult to catch as well, often springing traps intentionally and stealing any bait.   They are easily identified by their large, pointed ears though they are surprisingly well camouflaged for their environment. Their fur easily blends into the grasses and their agility and speed make them difficult to spot. They have powerful legs and long tails which help with their impressive balance. They grow to a maximum of half a meter in length from nose to tail and are generally quite light for their size, their fur making them appear far larger than they truly are.
