Krumas (kɾʏmæʂ)
The feral god of beasts and hunters, Krumas is often seen of violent and unpredictable, but in practice he has proven exceptionally intelligent and practical. A predator first and foremost, Krumas has little respect for those creatures who exist solely as prey, but in evidence of his practicality he recognizes that an unwary hunter can easily become prey.
As the greatest of hunters, he is patient and observant, but none of this offsets his deep and abiding jealousy of the beasts at the command of his elder brothers, Upe most of all. While Krumas' beasts include some great carnivores, mighty and powerful beasts of the land, there are monstrosities of the abyss that are unmatched on land or in the skies, and Krumas wishes dominion over these marine predators.
It was this conflict between Krumas and Upe that resulted in the Shattering of the West which altered the very face of Isesda for all time.
Another of Krumas' most notable accomplishments was the creation of the ancient lycanthropes, horrifying man-beasts that melded the intelligence of the sentient races with the traits of the greatest predators. They would soak the lands in blood at the height of the godswar and go on to haunt the darker places of Isesda for ages that followed.
Divine Domains
Krumas is the lord of hunters and the great beasts. He is the spray of blood across the pristine snow from the ambush of the fierce wildcat and the last bubbles of life as the crocodile drags its prey below. While his influence can extend into shallow fresh waters, most of the creatures under his dominion are the carnivores of the land.
Artifacts
Countless weapons have been fashioned in the name of the great hunter, but only two have been recognized by the Krumas himself.
The bloody claw, which shares its name with a popular title of Krumas, is a brutal weapon crafted from one razor sharp lycanthrope claw, created shortly after the expulsion of the Children from Isesda.
The other is the heartstriker, a hunter's bow which was blessed by Krumas after the mortal who wielded it managed to survive an encounter with a great bear which had been corrupted by Akumo. The mortal so impressed the huntmaster that he blessed the bow that took the beast's life that it should pierce any hide no matter how tough.
Holy Books & Codes
Krumas does not believe in the written word and so neither do his followers, at least when it comes to his worship. This practice is perfectly fitting for his code anyway as he concerns himself only with the natural order of predator and prey. His followers are always to ensure they are the the hunter. Many take this to instruct a strictly carnivorous diet or to justify a life of assault and murder, a state with which while not explicitly the command of the bloody claw he seems perfectly content. Among the less violent folk, Krumas is still invoked before and after any hunt and by scouts and rangers who hope to ensure their stealth keeps them from becoming prey.
Divine Symbols & Sigils
As his title as the bloody claw might suggest, the most common symbol of Krumas is the claw of a wild predator smeared with blood, usually strung as a pendant. This symbol is common across all the lands, though the specific predator who's claw is used varies by region.
Most any predator is associated with Krumas, including large cats, wolves, dogs, jackals, and the like. Freshwater crocodiles are associated with him as well, though not nearly as commonly. The only plants associated with Krumas are the few predatory plants, but this practice is very rare. Krumas is always depicted alongside the color red.
Tenets of Faith
The law of nature defines the faith of Krumas.
- You are either predator or you are prey.
- Survival is a competition, always seek to be the strongest.
- Brook no insult, punish any sleight.
Divine Goals & Aspirations
Just as he instructs his followers, Krumas seeks to be the strongest of the Children. He proves this by guiding those who worship him to express their own superiority through violence. While this may seem like the goals of a wild beast, this cunning plan is his way of weakening his siblings before he can take more direct actions.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Krumas has appeared in the world as a massive hunter covered in the bloody furs of his prey, a hulking lycanthrope with blood-caked red-brown fur, and as particularly massive beasts. One of the more frequent visitors to Isesda before the expulsion of the Children, there are many descriptions of him that have been passed down through the ages. When not depicted as an animal, he has appeared in the shape of many different peoples but always as a particularly strong and imposing example of whichever form he takes.
