Hirane
One of the comparatively newer settlements on the Bay, Hirane sits on the hilly and forested southern peninsula that, over time attracted the attention of wealthy merchants in Cromerth and Caister who wanted a respite from the bustle of the busy trade cities. The area was already home to a handful of fisherfolk, but as the wealthy began looking for a place to settle they welcomed the opportunity. Only a few hours travel on a ferry boat, Hirane was within easy reach of the shops and shipping lanes, but held an air of elegance, with homes tucked into the hills overlooking the water. The merchants began purchasing provisions directly from the locals rather than make extra trips across the bay, and so eateries sprang up along the shore with food and drink to suit the tastes of these financial patrons. Trade was initiated with the expert ocean fisherfolk of the village Tarrin, bringing in the highest quality seafood available from the Bountiful Exoanse.
With access to both the open ocean and the protected waters of the bay, Hirane has since built up and maintained a reputation for the finest seafood dishes in the region. A walk along the shoreline takes you past rows of food vendors, built right up to the water. They range from simple stalls to stately restaurants, and serve a wide range of local seafood alongside imported delicacies. From fresh fish, baked whole with lemon and thyme and served in buttered wine sauce made with a elven vintage, to ocean eel roasted on skewers and dipped in a smokey and sweet chili paste shipped in from Saalzing, it could take a person weeks to sample everything the lanes have to offer. Many of the bigger establishments have their own private docks, built out into the waters of the Blue. This allows fisherfolk easy access to deliver the day's catch.
It's not uncommon for a visiting tradeswoman to celebrate a successful deal with a ferry ride across the Blue and a lavish meal at one of Hirane's bayside inns. The town maintains friendly partnerships with its neighboring communities, and many chefs have special arrangements with spice merchants, and those who deal in wines and spirits, to receive these special deliveries from far off regions directly at the city docks. This allows them to legally circumvent the additional transfer fees of unloading at Cromerth or Caister and then ferrying goods back across the bay.
