Shipmoor structures
Nestled in a river delta between the massive Crow River and the Eastern Sea, Shipmoor started as a small community of fisherfolk, farmers, and adventurers. Over several centuries it became a large, self sufficient city-state located several day's journey south of Solanaveldt. Buildings are made of light wood and can be disassembled and relocated easily, as the river can erode the stability of the foundation in event of storms or especially high tides. Visitors often have trouble navigating the downtown, as the buildings can be relocated in a manner of hours. Buildings close to the main river are built on stilts to account for the rising of the sea, and can be connected by hanging walkways. Locals use these walkways as well as small flat bottomed boats and poles to navigate in the busy port. While most homes are able to relocate or are built way above sea level, the homes of the poor are often in less desirable locations leading to either an uncomfortable and damp existence or just being flooded outright in extreme circumstances.
Alterations
Due to the modular design of most homes and buildings, they are highly versatile. This makes it much easier to "expand" ones home if increasing the size of one's family or even just to have others over for a large gathering.
Architecture
Many of the buildings are often made on top of stilts well above sea level so that the raging rivers wont flood or sweep away the buildings. A different more recent style is that of light wooden building meant to be taken down and moved in the event of the rivers changing course.
History
Before the permanent establishment of Shipmoor there were multiple attempts to settle in nearby locations but they just kept sinking into the ground or being carried away by flooding rivers. Then the method of stilt homes inspired another attempt which was exponentially more successful. Later on the easily changeable and modular homes made of light wood encouraged even more settlement.
