The Tale of Existence

In the beginning, there was naught but the swirling voids of Chaos. The currents and drafts of this energy were unconfinned and irregular. Chaos reveled in itself, his existence danced and meld as he saw fit. That is until he had done all that could be done, he had twist and turned every fabric of Existence until there was no order to do it in until he had copied himself. From this sequence he had created Order.   Order had awoken from Chaos’ own doing, but she now sat in opposition to all he was doing. Mending the currents and tides of Reality so they were consistent and regular. Chaos had initially nothing but anger for Order, she “remedied” every fabric of Existence he pulled. Until he realized, before Order he had done all there was to be done, but now he had entirely new games to play. In the ensuing struggle between Chaos and Order, new beings were molded into existence; Light & Dark.   Light & Dark’s arrival into Reality caused utter glee in Chaos, more entities more possibilities, more snaring on the threads of Existence. Light could be just as righteous and Dark as oppressive as Order. Light gave these beings the ability to find each other and Dark took it away. As with Chaos, Order plucked and hammered Light & Dark until gave and took equally into Existence. Chaos, not to be out done, spun this new order, never to allow consistency. Each of the entities realized, the could only shape the tapestry of Existence, not tear or mold into their own image without the others intervening. They decided to work in cohesion to create a Reality all could be satisfied with, and from that point they refer to themselves collectively as the Ether.   The Ether agreed to introduce new threads to Reality, to create a more fulfilling Existence, however they could not agree on what those things were. So they conferred with each other, except Chaos & Order and Light & Dark. Order & Light created Earth. Light & Chaos created Fire. Chaos & Dark created Air. Dark & Order created Water. From this the Empyrean was born.   The Empyrean immediately set to work. Fire creating the Sun & Stars, shedding light onto existence. Water created the Moon, to allow the shadow of Dark to never fade. Earth created Ishtora, to allow a balance and so they made stand and look upon the beauty of Existence. Air then spun Ishtora, so Dark & Light see Ishtora equally. Impressed by these changes to Reality, The Ether blessed the Empyrean with more and more power. Earth shaped underground caverns and mountains that pierced into the hides of the Ether. Water rained it’s Essence created vast oceans and clouds that roamed the sky. Wind whipped and tore through Ishtora creating deserts and deep scars we know as valleys. Fire wanted more than to see what he could shape. He went to the Ether and demanded he be granted more power. The Ether granted him this power under the condition that he would get it once, and only once. He eagerly agreed and set out to create his vision, Life.   Life conceptually, was foreign to The Ether & the Empyrean. Beings whom Vitality would reside inside of a singular physical vessel? Fire tried imbuing them with only his own Essence, but they were unstable. It took him asking for the help from the rest of the Empyrean and all of their essences before they created the first of this Life, the Qalani.   The Qalani shattered and tore at the threads of Reality, changing Existence as their creators did, but they did it with the beings that inherited their Essence. They created buildings of the elements, homes to reinvigorate their bodies and temples to try and reach the Empyrean. Creating societies and religions, with many trying to appease their creators. The Ether gave the Empyrean the gift to create more Life due to the amazing success of the Qalani. Water created the beings who roamed the seas. Earth created the flowers and trees to make beautiful gardens. Air created the feathered and winged who took high to the skies. All while Fire was distracted by the Qalani and gave them all they could pray for. However will the others observed and rejoiced in what Existence had become, there was one who had managed to obtain a terrifying power. Dark was unloved and not worshiped by the Qalani, she was feared. Seeing she would never be loved by the Qalani or even the beasts of this world, she brought something new into Reality, Death.   Death like Life, threw the Ether & Empyrean almost entirely into the realms of Chaos. However once it became woven into reality the Death of these Mortal beings became almost a choice. The Empyrean decided what would become of the Essence of those who have Death befall them. In the throes of trying to balance his new Reality, Life & Death were welcomed into the Empyrean. Life supported by Light & Chaos while Death supported by Dark & Order. However by the time the agreements were woven into the fabrics of Reality, it was too late. The Qalani were gone.   The Qalani were a people of great essence, however their monolithic cathedrals and powerful creations could not stop their destruction… could not stop Death. With the absence of the Qalani, the Empyrean felt a void in Reality. So they set forth creating more powerful and wonderful beings, but even these could not replicate the Qalani or their achievements. But the Empyrean refused to give up, they started to create beings in the Qalani’s image, beings of thought and society known as The Kanoia. All from the most cunning Goblins to the deftest of Elves to the mightiest Trolls. The Empyrean however, did not take into account that unlike the Qalani, the Kanoia refused to work together. Due to the nature of their creation, the Kanoia found themselves at odds with each other, much like their creators. The tensions ran so deep the Kanoia risked destroying each other and themselves. Seeing that the fabrics of Existence were in danger, the Ether set forth to create a people who would be able to bridge the gaps between the disparate Kanoia, a people whose flexibility would serve as a bridge to ease tensions and foster good relations. So the Ether gave Life to the Race of Men.   The Race of Men would not receive the welcome they might have expected, most Kanoia refused to believe that the Ether would do something so drastic, and certainly refuse the claimed right of Men to dictate matters to other Kanoia. The constant vying of power between the Ether & Empyrean is causing damage to the Fabric of Existence. Worrying tears in Existence have created powerful abominations and terrifying monsters, even other Kanoia, threaten Ishtora. The time for action is now. Many of great Essence will rise to meet this call, and it's these great heroes who will repair the tears and save Ishtora.

Historical Basis

The Tale of Existence is widely accepted to be true. The story was given to wise shamans and augers of different Kanoia. Further cementing this belief are work of art believed to have been made by the Qalani detailing the Tale of Existence, and only a powerful and wise race could behind what the Qalani left behind.

Variations & Mutation

Variations of the Tale exist mostly in seemingly small details, that will admittedly cause scenes of violence if heard by a disagreeing faction. These details are things like which entity of the Ether or Empyrean first appeared or which entity has the most power.
