Phoenix Protection Squad

"You protect that bird like it is your own child. You live and breathe for it." The Fae woman had her arms clasped behind her back, pacing through a line of other fae women. Her hair was cut incredibly short and dyed the colour of dusty clay. "You will die for it too." Her voice was harsh as she looked over the gathered group. "If you aren't committed to this kind of dedication, then you can go." She gestured to the gate of the compound. "If you are...? Then welcome to the family."

Brief

The Phoenix Protection Squad, (known as P.P.S or Ayrn-bhrithis) are a small group of Fae women from both of the Fae Courts. It is a group of around 45 women in total who live on the Laeksiv island chains and work to protect the rare and endangered phoenix birds that are often targetted for parts to use in the blackmarket.

The Asset

The Phoenix (Avemignis immortalis) are the AB's charge. Males typically reach a size between 100 - 115 cm not including their train of tail feathers, while females typically reach a total size of 95cm.

Illegal Uses

The phoenix, due to it's resurective properties is believed to be invaluable in the blackmarket. Nearly every part of them will be broken down for use; from plucking every feather, to stripping the meat off their bones to eat, even their ashes or eggs. It isn't uncommon to hear of their bones being ground down into powders to use in dyes or other holistic medicines.

Composition

Manpower

The personel behind Ayrn-bhrithis varies in size, but the main group tends to hover around 45 members at a time. This is due to the harsh training they undergo, that causes many women to drop out before completion.
Teams consist of 3 women, and are in cells of 5 teams together. In total, there are 3 squads, spread along the islands of Laeksiv. There are jokes where the women who are in the teams are called chicks, while their superviours are 'mother hens'. There is sometimes hazing where recruits who haven't finished training are called hatchlings.

Training

Training is one of the most brutal parts of being an AB is the vigorous training that they undergo as Hatchlings. Blood, sweat and tears are common during their training and many Fae women can't handle the pressure, resulting in dropping out.   Their training consists of the following topics: unarmed combat, camouflage and concealment, search and arrest, as well as leadership and conservation ethics.
