The Nexus War

Overview

The Nexus War (also known as Separation of Hippessia) was a civil war in Isidoro's past between East and West Hippessia. This war was the starting point of the political and cultural splitting of Isidoro's inhabitants: whether they were considered Modernists of Traditionalists, and the beliefs they held toward magic and science.

Causes

Modernist vs Traditionalists

Modernism

In short, modern magic users and people who supported them (aka. Modernists) believed that science and magic could be combined, and that through unification, leaps and bounds in scientific and magical achievement alike were possible.

Traditionalism

Traditionalists were typically staunch in their stance: Magic is meant to be pure, untouched by science and scientific methods. It is the energy of the earth, and combining it with other methods sullies its worth, and diminishes the connection between the magic user and the mana flowing through the earth.

The Nexus

Near the middle of Isidoro lies the Nexus. At this well of magical energy, all the existing Ley Lines of Isidoro converge with one another. The largest battle of the Nexus War was over control of the region near the territory's center. In the end, due to Laimala's negotiations, the West gained control of the Nexus and consider it a huge achievement.

The Nexus Now

In current times, the Nexus and its surrounding land are considered a national protected space. There is a single large temple built there, and access to the land is guarded and taken very seriously. Creatures sensitive to mana that require high levels for survival are often transported there as a way to both protect them and bolster their numbers.

Political Climate in Isidoro

After the war, Isidoro provinces and territories began to mark themselves as Modernists or Traditionalists. This divide can often start fights between species and day to day interactions, as open magic use combined with technology in a Traditionalist society can lead to either the lightest of scolding, and stares, to full on beatings.   This isn't to say that Modernists are any better; this animosity goes both ways.
