High Council of Aerost
The High Council of Aerost is the ruling council of the city in the southeast of Melas. It directs the defense, commerce, order and religious practices of the city of Aerost.
Duties
The High Council of Aerost passes laws that govern the city and the surrounding lands. A number of nearby farms and villages are dependent on the city for care and defense, and have subjected themselves to its laws.
They control the Sheriffdom, which enforces law and order within and without the walls of Aerost. They also control the City Defense, which is comprised of officers in the Sheriffdom and other volunteers that can be called up at a moment's notice to defend the city from attack. Members
The High Council of Aeron is comprised of five (5) members. One of the five is always designated the Burgemester and is the political leader of the council (and, as such, the city itself).
The five seats on the council are chosen every two years, in a staggered pattern, and each councilor serves a term of ten years. Each race of beings residing the the city have an opportunity to be represented on the council, and when a seat is open, the next race in line elects a representative.
Each seat on the Council corresponds in name to one of the animals in the Wheel of Life. That person, by tradition, strives to uphold that animal's associated character trait in all council business.
At this point in history, the Burgemester is a human named Errol Ata and holds the Seat of the Loyal Dog. He just began the final 2 years of his 10-year term.
