The Great Fey Migration

Era beginning/end

1 FE

The Great Fey Migration started when the city of Melonor was ripped from its place in the Feywild into Isolde.

While significantly less common, fey crossings did take place before the Great Fey Migration. The veil between realms is more metaphysical than physical. The veil is strongest where there is little to no connection between the realms, and weakest when they are strongly correlated. There are many ways that connections can be made, including physical layouts, relative regions, and correlative populations.   Those points have always existed, and many fey creatures and folk have crossed over, some of whom had even chosen to settle on Isolde. The Great Fey Migration is different in that the weak points that were already in the veil became tears, allowing for significantly freer movement between the two realms in those areas for a time.   Within the Feywild, there was a faction of elves that wanted to create a bridge between the Feywild and Isolde. They chose a site that they knew was a weak point in the veil, a large island in the middle of an enormous lake. They set about constructing a city, the first of its kind in the Feywild, as well as crafting a ritual that would allow them to anchor the city within the veil, allowing it to exist both within the Feywild and on Isolde simultaneously.   Right before the ritual was completed, there was a massive surge in arcane energy, which disrupted it enough to break the spell. The city was anchored on Isolde, but the connection to the Feywild was severed, ripping a hole in the veil and materializing Melonor on the island in Blackmount Lake. A great many fey that were near Melonor or weak points in the veil that connected to Isolde for much of the lands east of the Mithral Mountains.   While the island in Blackmount Lake was uninhabited, the lands to the north and south weren’t. The tieflings and the aasimar, who had a long history of both hot and cold wars, found themselves confronted by a great many fey, some of whom were dangerous or nefarious. Some of those confrontations happened on Isolde, while others happened when they unexpected crossed over into the Feywild. The elves of Melonor rallied as quickly as they could, but many people lost their lives, and almost all lost their homes.   While the elves helped relocate the tieflings and aasimar, hoping it would be temporary, they began the work of driving back the more dangerous fey and mending the veil as best as they could. In the end, they couldn’t completely heal the wounds they had caused, but they were able to seal the worst of it, and they devoted themselves to patrolling the lands that were left behind, forming the first rangers on Isolde, the Horizon Walkers.   During the period when the veil was still severely damaged, there was a migration of fey into Isolde through the open tears. Each had their own reason for being there. For some it was out of curiosity, others were escaping the dangers of the Feywild, many were looking for a new start, and plenty were hoping to reunite with family. There was some adjustment that was needed, but in time all who wanted to be there were settled.
