"Legend has it that it contains the answers to all the mysteries of the universe. It details parts of the past that most souls, mortal and immortal, know nothing about. Some say it describes the future. One thing is known for sure: it can tell you just about everything you need to know about the fey, even the mysterious fey magic. With that knowledge by your side, you could probably control the entire world. Even the Emperor-King would bow to you. If only we could find it..."
~ Unknown author, commenting on common rumors for the contents of Ra'ath's Lost Journal
It has been many years since the great mage
Ra'ath passed from this world.
However, rumor has it that he left behind something very important; a journal containing a thousand years worth of information and knowledge. It is said that he kept a journal of everything he studied, all the most important rituals and understandings, and that he accumulated knowledge from others to create an all-encompassing book with many of the answers to the world today. While there is no concrete proof of any such book existing, the rumors cite evidence based on such comments from him as "let me put that in my book" when he was told new information, and certain comments near the end of his days about a "great treasure" and/or "my life's work" being hidden in "a safe place". Most people assume this to be referring to a journal or book of his greatest achievements, while others believe he might have hidden a literal treasure of high worth such as gems or platinum.
Among the rumors, the most prominently reoccurring theme is that of the knowledge of fey magic. Ra'ath was known for his studies on the fey and their magic, a notoriously complex subject. He is said to have performed many feats impossible for mortal magic, often feats which no other mage had accomplished. While some have been known to dabble in fey magic from time to time and come out with a few scraps of knowledge, most who have done so either end up with nothing, or, in worse cases, end up harmed. Ra'ath is one of the few to have demonstrated what might be called copious talent, if not a mastery, in the realm of the fey. This knowledge would make his journal indispensable to the magic community and to mortal lives as a whole. Unfortunately, it was not among the possessions he turned over to the local mages guild or donated to the museums upon his death. Some wonder if it was nothing more than a rumor, while others believe he has hidden it in such a way as to make the finding of it exclusive to the right person.
There have been many searches through the great tower he lived in during the later part of his life and the surrounding areas, with no concrete evidence discovered as to date - and yet, the thought of finding such a treasure continues to tantalize the thrill-seekers and the knowledge-hungry alike.
