Age of Fables
The Age of Fables refers to an historical period where the Fey first populated the continents.
During this time period, two factions vied for controll of Ivaenlis, the Primals, led by the elemental Genies, and the Fey, led by the Elves. Despite their differences, both civilizations flourished: temples and monuments darted the landscape, each more grandiose and elaborate than the previous. Such monumental projects required a great deal of workers, which led to the enslavement of other races, such as humans or dwarves.
Eventually, the two great civilizations clashed: soldiers became the most precious resource and, to that effect, the Primals created Orcs to fight their battles. In response, the Fey kingdoms created the Hobgoblins, an equal match to the Orcs. The flames of war consumed entire continents, laying to the ground many of the previous wonders. Yet, the tip shifted ever so slightly in favor of the Elves, a species naturally resistant to the effects of magic and, eventually, the genies were exterminated.
Despite winning, the victory was pyrrhic at best: elves now only dwelled in Aetheos and the hatred of most species was focused in their kind. Fey culture grew stagnant, blinded by their own arrogance and the banishnent of the goblins from the Fey kingdoms led to further stagnation. As the page turned to a new era - the Age of Seers -, the Fey were brought to a steep decline, which was accentuated by the appearance of the Seers and the adoption of techniques such as the Test of Iron.
