Holtwind

A small Assadin settlement in southern Ivendarea, Holtwind lies in the outskirts of a treacherous jungle in the Green River's delta. It is mainly in contact with the outside world through the requisition of rare and beautiful woods found in the region. The village consists of a handful of families and seasonal workers that travel here during the dry months to help with the harvest as well as the planting of new trees. The pay is decent enough, and Holtwind is a quiet, peaceful settlement far off the worries of civil wars and politics.

Demographics

Holtwind's was founded by the Assadin a few centuries ago and until today is mostly inhabited by them, although with every passing year the village grows a bit through the seasonal workers deciding to make a home in the isolated, yet friendly community.

Industry & Trade

While Holtwind possesss a sawmill, a blacksmith, and a carpenter business, 90% of the raw materials harvested here - mostly wood - is exported along the Green River into the heart of the country without being further treated. Wood is the main source of income for the villagers, any farming, fishing, and hunting in the area is done exclusively for the residents' self supply.

Infrastructure

Holtwind was built near and partly within the ruins of an abandoned structure of the Nyr. Potentially an isolated temple of the Gideya it had been abandoned long before Zerenda's Conquest and was rediscovered when Assadin explorers decided to map the Green River, particularly its delta region. The Nyr were not cooperative or willing at the time to share their own maps, it is highly likely though that they knew about the existence of these ruins before the Assadin discovered them.   The ancient walls and structures still intact serve partially as fortifications of the village against predators, partly also are directly integrated into their buildings and functions as walkways during the rainy season. Holtwind's houses are simple, made from wood and partially stone, elevated high on stilts or the aforementioned ruins to combat the rising water level during the continuous rains in the summer. The water at times can rise so high that travel within the most deep-set areas of village is only possible via boat, and many houses are connected with elevated walkways and bridges.
