God

A god is a higher entity, a type of deity, whoever power fluctuates depending on the amount of worshippers they have. They are immortal and empowered with every prayer or sacrifice. In return they often give services and blessings that depend on their domain as a divine being, such as Magic. This means that the Elder Gods are not really gods, just a type of deity, for they are not really worshipped in the traditional sense. Gods are normally bound to one world, though they can give blessings and receive the effects of worship across worlds. Occasionally, if they are powerful enough, some gods can shift from one world to another.
It is possible for a mortal to ascend to godhood, through a series of complicated magical rituals and a very extreme sacrifice, but the knowledge of how to undergo such a process is not known to mortals. Occasionally, this can happen unintentionally, through a different method, after a great deed is performed and the mortal receives extreme worship to the point of being godlike.
Gods use different techniques and approaches to gain worshippers. Some threaten and destroy mortals so people worship the god to be safe. Others are kind and give gifts to potential worshippers to win their favour. Some make pacts and contracts with people who desire power in exchange for sacrifices and services. If a god loses its last worshipper, the god ‘fades’ and becomes a mortal. However, the divine entity still exists and can be summoned and ascended by regaining worshippers.
