Al Shamal

The Dessert Mining City

Based on the Western side of a canyon, the city of Al Shamal is a sight to behold. The city is currently without a ruler as the last king and queen were victims of a plague six years ago. Princess Ifari, the monarch's only child will take the throne in a year when she turns sixteen. Currently the city is run by the Regent of the King, and a handful of advisers and representatives who work on behalf of the young princess.   This city wasn't built by a canyon by accident, as it has ancient burial grounds, which is of great importance to the people of Al Shamal. The main attraction is the tomb of monarchs, a tomb that has housed the bodies of every ruler the city has ever had. The tomb of monarchs was built 470 years ago and designed by Tiefling travellers. Al Shamal has a developing economy, which is mainly supported by mining of a rare mineral called “Shadow Stone” and trading with the Al Sothan company called: “Zirok sentient properties”. Though Al Shamal has outlawed enslavement of citizens, due to being close allies with Al Sotha, and Shadow stone being an important part of the creation of shock collars, the nation has recently allowed the use of slaves by the zirok company to mine the stone for the betterment of both cities.    Shadow stone, is a black obsidian like stone imbued with minor traces of Shadowfell energy, it is said the city was built atop land that has an extremely thin barrier between the material plane and Shadowfell, meaning some of that raw energy leeks into the land. This makes Shadow stone easy to enchant and so it is a valued treasure amongst magic users. The biggest patrons of shadow Stone are Al Sotha, Naga-Var-Gett and Newtongrav.

Future

Despite its strengths and weaknesses, Al Shamal is most likely headed towards an affluent future under the leadership of Princess Ifari. The Princess soon intends to abdicate the throne to form a new democracy, sponsored by the leaders of the Zirok Sentient Properties Company, giving the people to vote for reformations in slave trade, and boost the economy. This is a controversial move to say the least. Some believe this to be a spit in the face of the traditions of all Al Shamalian people, that if Princess Ifari does not place the crown on her head during the coronation, she is bringing in power to an outside force the people will have no control over. Others believe that the economy of Al Shamal is doomed to fail in the next few years, and that bringing in ties to the sister city of Al Sotha will strengthen the economy and bring power to the people.   Whatever happens, it is a safe bet to presume the future of Al Shamal will be one of change.
