Al Sotha
Nation of Slaves
Description
Al Sotha is known as the Nation of Slaves, and is truly a leading-edge curiosity. Its uniqueness is matched by the backdrop of mountains which have helped shape the city into what it is today. The cities main import and export trade is slaves. Though the city is the home to some of the richest and most powerful people in the world, the population is ninety percent slaves, used for everything from butlers to manual labourers. The trade and ownership of slaves is heavily policed by the guards of the city, if tourists to the land do not have their official papers received upon entry to the city, their rights could immediately be taken from them and they could be put up for sale the next day. All slaves have large collars fitted around their throats that will send a powerful electric shock to the wearer if the master issues a code word, if that somehow doesn't stop them, any collar taken out of the city without express permission from a master or city official will explode. Though the cities slavery regime does harbour violence and evil, most who live their are subject to the same laws, it actually a crime to mistreat any slave you own in public. Not all slaves are treated poorly, some are even paid and their slave owners will actually go so far as to pay for citizenship papers for their slaves at a time when they no longer have a use for them. This has actually created a circular system of slaves becoming slave owners, who in turn eventually free their slaves and so on. Every hundred or so years a slave revolt will occur in Al Sotha, the slaves will turn on their masters and overthrow them. But like all revolutions, the power balance never stays equal for long. Ex-slaves will enslave their masters as punishment, subjecting them to the idignity they endured. And eventually, after years of unchecked power, the city is restored back to its normal levels of slave trade. The last revolt was one hundred and fifty five years ago and led by a mercenary group called “The Dawnstars” from Estua. The group rallied slaves and marched through the streets to the palace of the Sultan, throwing him from his tower. The city today looks very similar to the days before the last revolution, slaves working in mines and gladiatorial arenas, vendors from every region selling wares to the rich and powerful, and a tensity in the air, as if a rebellion is forthcoming. The Spires
The Spires are three isometric towers placed around the walls of the main city of Alsotha (although the nation expands the entire north eastern corner of Ufaria), the spires act as magical wards for all slave collars, amplifying the magic. They also act as barriers, as any collar that passes the barrier explodes. The towers have the bonus advantage of being a looming deterrent to any slave getting ideas of rebellion. The Spires have been named by the people; Gett, Farz, Shuma.Sultan Vikafri Dawnkiller
Bald head, yellow eyes and soft tanned skin. The appearance of the fallen aasimar is a sight to behold. He has ruled the city for 150 years with an iron fist. As a former guard captain of the previous tyrant he was mastering the leadership of Al Sotha before he ever saw power. Many nobles in Al Sotha believe Dawnkiller is the very soul of the city. Born into slavery many years ago, he earned his freedom in the gladiatorial arena, became captain of the guard, slew a member of the Dawnstars in the last revolution and pulled the city back from the ashes almost single-handedly.Unity like Chain
