Drambec Brethik

"You can abandon your own body but never let go of your honour” -Drambec Brethik     The Dragonborn people have a well-known dedication to honour, but none more so than Grand Priest Drambec Brethik. All priests of Bahamut are expected to live and die by their word, and for Grand Priest Brethik nothing is more important. Brethik views all living things, even hated enemies, as deserving of courtesy and respect. To Brethik, honour is more than just a word. Cowardice is not simply undesirable among his dragonborn people, it is considered outright repulsive.   To Brethik, the most horrible crime is the breaking of one's own oath; honesty is expected whenever a deal is struck. Commitment to a word is expected to be carried out to the letter and all parties in a deal are held accountable and responsible for failings. Ultimately, those who fail to meet their word are expected to accept the consequences.

Chosen of The Platinum Lord

It is unknown what causes the birth of a metallic dragonborn, some think it's a rare quirk in genetics, but most believe it to be a blessing from the platinum dragon himself, a sign that this child is destined for greatness. Most metallic dragonborn go on to become great priests, blessing their disciples with inspiring words, some go onto adventuring, to fight evil and make a name for themselves, but Brethik was special. There have only been three platinum dragonborn before Drambec, all became rulers.   When the Grand priest was born he was taken from his family and placed in the halls of the long forgotten emperors in Kaghak, in these halls he was taught by his masters the long history of the Bahamut, the dragonborn, and the platinum dragonborn. He did not see another living soul other than his masters until he was fifteen, and his accession to the Grand Priesthood had arrived. The years spent in the halls of his "ancestors” were not wasted however, as they had been spent moulding him into the master of religious study and politics. Since he was a hatchling he has understood that he must be responsible for the dragonborn, and this task has never left his waking mind. Brethik is proud of the history and legacy of his people, he is honoured to serve them.

A Tainted legacy

When the Raven ultimately arrives to take Drambec home to the Platinum father, the historians will note him as one of the greatest leaders of the modern dragonborn age. However, there will always been a black mark on that legacy, the greatest failure of the Grand Priest, a costly mistake that lead to the death of hundreds of Dragonborn and ultimately the return of the dark Moander, that of the great catastrophe of Naga-var-gett.   Many years ago, when Brethik had only recently taken the throne, one of the first responsibilities was to relocate the five gate scrolls, the ancient draconic scrolls that held the banished dark god of undeath, Moander. As he had learned growing up, the dragonborn, in their desperation for victory against the ancient Arid elves, the dragonborn gave more power to Moander and upon his defeat and imprisonment the dragonborn were held responsible. The first Grand Priest of Naga-Varr-Gett was given the scrolls to hide away and secure, to contain Moander and protect the world; this has been the duty of every Grand Priest since.   One of the locations the Grand priest Brethik chose was an old run-down library near his place of birth, locked away securely and protected from outsiders, this was located away from prying eyes yet hidden from being found by curious library patrons. This would have been perfectly acceptable, if it wasn't for one lowly black dragonborn named Amrok, Amarok was appointed as a librarian, mostly due to his in-depth knowledge of the library, this was a high station for him and so he was content to continue, until one day he found the gate scroll hidden within the depths of the library. Late one night Amarok went down to the scroll and replaced it with a forgery and fled his homeland with the relic. After a few months on the run, eventually Amrok was hunted down and caught, however in his final desperate moments Amrok used the scroll to attack his once allies, who had "betrayed" him. This grave moment led to Moanders freedom, and Brethik blames himself.
