Soroker

The Lord of Loss

"The world is changed because you are made of ivory and gold. The curves of your lips rewrite history, I love you Sybil" -Soroker

Martin Townsend, known by his wizard name Soroker, was born was a powerful wizard and scholar. He is best known as the Lord of Loss, due to the promises to his cult to return those who have passed on. He was born in the town of Harsbrook, near Bluebeech. Soroker died in an altercation during his ritual to crash the material plane and feywild together, he was slain by the adventuring group known as The Hand.

Early Life

Soroker was born Martin Townsend on Richfest 8th, many years ago in Halsbrook, Candor. Even as a boy he had a difficult relationship with his father, his mother dying at birth it was just the two of them. James J Townsend expected much of his only child, enrolling him the highest schooling money can buy, hoping one day Martin would be able to take over the family money lending business.

Martin was academically gifted from a young age and had learnt Common, Elven and Dwarvish by the time he was ten years old. He flew through his studies and schooling and graduated at the age of nineteen. At the age of twenty he was accepted to Thalor University in Nil'Nui where he met the love of his life Sybil Maywill.

Thalor University

During his time at university Soroker studied magic and the arcane. He graduated and created his new name as Soroker. While studying his magic, he met a young elven woman by the name of Sybil. The two became attached at the hip, Sybil studying archaeology, Soroker studying the arcane. They intended to journey to the Feywild and study the beauty together as a final university project, aiding each others research once Sybil returned from an archeology dig in Ufaria. This plan was cut short when Sybil never returned.

Without Sybil, Soroker found his grades declining, unable to concentrate and sinking into a deep depression. He attempted to find out what happened many times, and eventually he did. Sybil had been involved in a terrible accident at the archaeological dig, they could not recover the body.

Later Years

After discovering his true loves demise Soroker endeavoured to bring her back to life, this was no easy task. First he funded multiple expeditions of adventurers to go down into that temple and recover the body. After a few failed missions, finally, there was a success. After collecting the body from its resting place Soroker began experiments to bring her back to life, funded by his father.    Eventually James Townsend cut his son off, telling his son to move on. This decision was not taken lightly as James had seen his sons temper and arcane talent in person, but his son had began to sink thousands of gold into his arcane projects that seemed impossible. This was a terrible mistake, one night in Flocktime his father "Slipped" and cracked open his skull. Soroker inherited the family fortune.

Reviving Sybil

One hundred and twenty four years it took Soroker to even begin the process of bringing his lover back to life. Whenever he began to age past beyond the face Sybil knew he would clone himself and take a new body. He had discovered that Sybils body could be replaced through magic, but nothing he tried worked at returning the soul.   Soroker had learnt that Sybils soul had been taken by a necromancer named Dakvig, who lived within the city of Arkak in the Shadowfell. Soroker travelled to the plane of death, and made a deal with Dakvig. One thousand souls in return for Sybil's, Dakvig thought this would be a too high a price....it was nothing for Soroker.   The ceremony worked, and Sybil returned to life. However it did not go as Soroker thought, for she no longer recognised the man who had bought her back, he looked the same, but those blue eyes of curiosity and wonder were now steely and full of bitter coldness. It pained Soroker, but he could not bring himself to confine her, she had made her choice and let her leave.

The Madness consumes

Losing Sybil was the final final straw for the sanity that prevailed within the wizard Soroker. Sitting alone in his tower under the sea, he devised a final push to convince his lost love that he was truly deserving, if she would not go to the feywild with him, he would bring the fey wild to her.    His scheme was thus: He would gather a group of people who had lost people they loved and would get them to set up arcane pylons at distinct places across Jafare, each located at an intersection of arcane leylines. This would enhance the ritual spell and make it easier to merge the two planes of existence together, morphing them into one huge plane of existence.   Gathering the group was easy, naming himself the Lord of Loss he found those who were grieving and manipulated them for his bidding, eventually it became a bonafide cult. He had generals, higher ups, and an island to train and set up his schemes. He hired three high level wizards: Magnus Muldoon, a mountain of a man who was as strong as he was academically sound, who had lost his little daughter, Avida, a kind woman who had lost her husband and vowed revenge and Davinikor, a wizard of incredible skill who had lost his brother. They were his generals, confidants and minions.

Death of the Lord

Eventually the Lord of Loss was betrayed, a group named The Hand discovered his plot and set about his destruction. They began by dismantling several of his pylons, and destroying his island. They brought back the feelings the generals had felt and showed them the truth about Soroker's lies. They all began their own lot to stop this merging of the planes.   Eventually the band of adventurers found their way to where it all began, the abandoned archaeological dig site where Sybal had died all those years ago. The group managed to disrupt Soroker and kill him, using his true name.
