Verus

Two Faced God

Verus is the duality of selflessness and greed. For what is altruism? Does one not do good deeds because it feels good? Are such acts not self serving? This question encapsulates the source of Verus power and is reflected in his symbol. The Coin, with two faces.   Altruism is a fine motive, but if you want results, greed works much better.

Relationships

Among the other gods, Verus is allied most closely with Tiamat, as they both encompass a degree of greed. That does not mean he supports her efforts however, he believes because her schemes to be classless and primal, a stark contrast to the civilised deceitfulness and tactics he embodies.

Worshippers

As patron of the greedy and lustful, Verus draws in materialistic mortals that not only desire the pleasures of wealth but the pleasure of denying it to others. His clergy often consist of tax collectors, bankers and rulers. Like Verus himself, his followers excel at managing relations between groups by two-facedly switching between attitudes.

They will stoop to any tactic, no matter how humiliating, awkward, or otherwise unpleasant, to get what they want. Completely lacking in shame, they conversely have no honor, lying and cheating as needed. They can operate within a group of supposed allies for months or perhaps even years before quickly betraying them in order to get ahead.

Temple

Temples to Verus are obscenely ornate and ungodly gaudy, showcasing so much treasure that the raw garishness borders on ridiculous. True to the nature of Verus, the implements within weren't so much tools to protect their wealth but wealth that also performed a function. From the altars, to the temples themselves, almost everything was made of gold and adorned with gemstones.
