Involuntary Caustic Superciliousness, or ICS, is a proposed psychological disorder defined as a compulsion for snide, sarcastic, and cynical remarks to the point of hindering normal social interactions. Often accompanied by persnickety, fastidious, and obsessive behavior.   This illness is fairly easy to recognize, though it seems to be rare.

Transmission & Vectors

As of yet unknown, though it doesn't seem to be contagious.

Symptoms

A near constant uncontrollable desire to talk as condescendingly as possible. Involuntarily making snide and cynical remarks, often accompanied by a seaming virulent disdain of perceived idiocy.

Treatment

One treatment is the drug Mirye. When taking it, even the most serious cases go from unlovable monsters to affable enjoyable people.
Unfortunately they often get a bit too relaxed and too friendly. Wanting to feel on and hug most people they see or collapse into a pile of giggles. It usually causes drowsiness as well. While this is preferable over the insufferable snark, it still isn't socially acceptable or conducive to a proper work environment.   Its only really useful after one awakes from their drug induced nap, when they have between an hour and a day, depending on the severity, of pleasant normalcy before the symptoms of ICS return.

Sequela

There is some debate among the Soundness Studies community as to whether or not HyperSuppression Mania is linked to ICS.
(though there is even more debate over the validity of HSM in general)   More research is needed.

History

The most well documented case of ICS involved a male Chiuov patient.
Its possible he was born with it, but the earliest recording of its being a problem was when he was 15. Finding it hard to interact with others he tried to self medicate with Oracle, and later Vision. Though this only made the symptoms worse, it did distract from the need to comment on things.
Later on he also tried Mirye which seemed to work. To this day its the only prescribed medication for the illness, though it comes with undesirable side effects.   The illness has cost the patient dearly. His inability to interact socially has caused him to loose his medical licence, suffer several attempts at 'reeducation', and loose family connections.
Because of his revoked license he was kidnapped by pirates, but it also caused them to later abandon him, leaving him in the hands of the Vondren Military. His military superiors don't take kindly to his behavior either though, and it is difficult for his Doctor to get them to understand the severity of the illness.
