Shelley Coats

The Shelleycoats are a town miliitia that has been set up near the wall of the wrackshore to patrol Crustasha  folk from coming across the border. Few crab folk are able to sail and so the wall and so this militia have provided adequate defense.   The Shelleycoats are typically armed with tridents or cast off claws of Crustasha and are required to be good swimmers. Shelleycoats often gather their armor from cast off  Crustasha shell as well as  fish scale of the Maren a fish whose scales to do not deteriorate after death. Shelleycoats will often guide ships out if they must cross the area in front of the wrack shore.

Manpower

The shelleycoats are the largest militia in Portsmouth. However they are directed towards a single purpose border patrol. They number approximately 300 members in the dock ward.

Equipment

Shelley Coats have a sea cave station that holds a minor naval force of longboats.  They have a knife that is made of a shell that can cut through coral.

Weaponry

Trident, nets, Swords constructed from broken claws of Crustasha as well as claws on the end of poles.

Vehicles

Shelley coats primarily move about in long boats. Some of these boats are made from shells of fallen Crustasha Anything larger can easily be damaged by the reefs of the wrack shore.

Structure

The Shelley Coats are largely manned by the hard ass merchants and fisherman of Portsmouth to protect the shipment of their stock. However the commanding officers of the unit answer to the The Temple of the Grasping Waters and answer to the 8 great warriors of the Tentacle Guard.

Tactics

The Shelly coats use a melee technique of trident and net of their foes.  They do not wish to get in tight. Many have had a finger or worse removed by the claws of the crab people. Sometimes the will lie in wait and two will clothesline someone with a net and then dash with a trident.    They will often attack with large nets in group formation.    Shelley coats have also learned a good deal from the swim tactics of their opponents the crab folk. They will often bury themselves in the sand before ambushing.

Training

Shelley coats are the recognized tougher fisherman of Portsmouth offered a different trade by the temple of grasping waters. Shelley coats will be taken on deadlier and deadlier sea life expeditions. Giant crab hunts and then Eventually given to a right of passage of having to go on a shark hunt. For a shelleycoat holding ones breath and the ability to hide are given as much gravity as ones ability to wield a weapon.   They are taught to fight on land, rock and water.
