Tritons
Tritons are an amphibious sentient species and the native inhabitants of the waters around Vandahl. The various different Tritons can live on both water and land, but often make their home in underwater cities.
Tritons have had a tense and uneasy relationship with the predominantly human population of Vandahl. Though sometimes dismissed as primitive by the humans, the Triton society ranges from nomadic traveling pods to well-developed society with high culture. Tritons practice advanced magic in all forms. The Tritons preferred using technology and magic that is related in some way to the ecology of their world. For example, they are drawn to natural magic like Wild and Divine magic, but Arcane magic is also prevalent in more developed city-states. The Tritons also domesticate animals for use in transport and combat, in salt waters such as the Giant Sea Horses, the Hunter Shark, and Plesiosaurus (in specific locations), in fresh water such as Constrictor Snake, Giant Frog, and Giant Crocodile.
The Triton government comprised city-based clans and clan governments that answer to a High Council, which dealt with disputes between clans and cities. Higher developed cities have turned evolved into city-states, the most famous recognized Triton’s City-State of Maji-Kali (“Maw-He Ka-lee”) nestled in the waters below the Helleflam Capital Flamhughn, in Lake Brenden Wasser.
Though not prone to war among themselves, the Tritons have had to adapt to being surrounded by natural enemies. So, Tritons are a proud warrior race, and maintain large Triton forces, every Triton is warrior first before all else. Regardless or position, duty, or station in society every Triton is trained and sworn to protect the pod.
