Skalitz Haklgat

Skalitz Haklgat was an Ethernian guard in the service of, first, Isora Mezezi and then Ethel Mezezi within the kingdom of Sedun. He would become the first captain of the Queen's Guard, given the position due to his close relationship to Ethel Mezezi.

Early Life

Not much of Skalitz' early life is known, only that he was born as the son to a Guarmou family. His rise to authority began during Isora's quest to claim control over Sedun, during which he was an important ally and trusted confidant. So well trusted was he that when Isora came across a likely orphaned child during her destruction of the Kuluij Clan, she entrusted her protection to Skalitz as her bodyguard. This child would later be named Ethel.
To his credit, Ethel grew in safety- although there were not many serious threats to her wellbeing at that time. Isora's wars seemed never-ending, and her rage nearly unquenchable after Opuli's death, however after her solidification of control over Sedun her forces were in a reduced usage. Skalitz was appointed as the head of the household guards in Stoy-kaham's castle. Here he developed a close relationship with his young blonde charge, being directly responsible for her needs and tutors when Isora was away.

Tenure as Captain of the Guards

Skalitz' time as the captain of the household guards in Stoy-kaham lasted for many years, from about the time that Ethel was adopted by the queen until Ethel's own coronation. For nearly twenty six years Skalitz would head the guards. The guards as a unit did not change much during this time, but under good supervision they functioned well- managing to foil the one attempt on Isora's, and possibly Ethel's, life. Notably, Skalitz was the guard who witnessed Ethel's rendezvous with her presumed dead Ethain friend Sezzlic Denk in a riverside cabin. Despite holding loyalty towards Isora, he allowed the two to escape to Etha with a headstart before informing Isora of the matter. Skalitz was not present when Sezzlic was thrown from the bridge into the river, although he was one of the first to witness Ethel's ragged state of mind following the event and so likely felt pity for her former charge.

First Shield of the Queen's Guard

Upon Ethel's coronation in 1087, Skalitz was reassigned to the command of the Queen's Guard, a newly established personal guard for the Seduni queen. The first lineup of the Queen's Guard numbered twenty and was made up of Ethel's most trusted Guarmo. Naturally, Skalitz was at the top of the list.
