The Kingdom of Etraks

Based on the Galatian estuary, the Kingdom of Etraks is an old polity that was formed during the time of the Gerreggian confederacy and achieved independent nation-state status.

Structure

The Kingdom of Etraks is led by the king. The king is subject to his parliament, who are responsible for legislature in the country.   The king is a hereditary title passed, in most circumstances, from father to oldest son.   There are several prominent positions within the parliament, most notable of which is the Chancellor who is responsible for overseeing the assembly.

Assets

Etraks controls one of the greatest rivers in Easterm Kolaskyva. This means that much of the production of the Gerreggian lands has to travel through Etraks in order to reach the sea. As such, Etraks has a large influence on trade and politics within the Gerreggian region.

History

Etraks as a region was settled by a slew of ancient peoples. It did at one point come under the control of the Leomite empire based in Amethia, as well. Despite this, though, it was largely uncivilized and it was a region constantly in flux with new invaders.   When the Gerreggians swept southwards from their homeland in the north, they also invaded this region. They would manage to claim this land on a more permanent basis, although it would also suffer from the Arasian invasion.   When the northern Gerreggian states united to form a sort of confederation against encroaching Arasians, they sent emissaries south demanding allegiance. Although with mixed results, much of modern day Gerregy came under the nominal of the new emperor.   In order to secure their control over the more detached regions of the country, one of the emperors sent a man with an army to take control of Galatia. This man was Janos Oiken. It is from his rule and line that the kingdom of Etraks would descend.   Etraks served as a valiant bulwark of the realm against repeated Arasian invasions, guarding the crucial Galatian river. Many important battles occurred in Etraks in this period before the Gerreggians, under Etraki and Vanalian leadership, counter-attacked. Etraks' role in shattering the Arasian front was crucial. Etraks for centuries would be the great guard of the south east, always at the ready to fight the eastern threat.   Yet despite Etraks' work in the east, the Gerreggian realm decentralized. Localized dynasties arose and acted with increasing autonomy. A side-effect of this trend was the disunity and warfare that this caused between the new states. Beginning in this period, the Etraki state was in-part defined by its opposition to Vanalia. Vanalia now presented an existential threat to Etraks. Controlling the upper Galatian river and allying with several Arasian powers, they were the single clearest threat.
