Following Sezzlic's imprisonment by the Belkush guards, he is incarcerated for several weeks and interrogated. At the end of the period the Seduni noble Ethel Mezezi frees him and saves him from likely execution, indebting him to her. In return, she asks that he serve as her body guard until she returns to Sedun.

After killing Aybeedef, the king of Belkush, in personal combat, Sezzlic is detained and imprisoned by the guards of the estate. His life is twice saved by Ethel Mezezi who at first convinces the guards to interrogate him for useful information instead of outright executing him, and then, after weeks of failed interrogation, by her freeing him before the guards would inevitably execute the useless captive. Leaving the cell, the two escape in a carriage and start their journey together.
