The Green Coast
The Green Coast, also known as the Cursed Coast, has never had success establishing a cohesive government in recorded history. Currently, the larger cities in the region have a loose association through an agreement known colloquially as the Cursed Accords. Many individual cities and communities fear another catastrophe will be imminent shouold they organize any more formally. This makes the people of the region hardy and independent. Trade is limited within and outside of the region. The most important products are grain from farming the fertile soil and metals extracted from several large and small mines dotting the landscape and nearby mountain range.
There is a curse afflicting this region. While the origin of the curse is largley unknown, although rumors of a vindictive dark mage abound, breaking this curse is no easy feat. Throughout the region, five blightstones are scattered. Should they be gathered and brought to the Gray Mire, there is an obelisk with indentations for five stones. Placing the blightstones in these indentations will shatter the obelisk and break the curse over the region.
(Note that some of the landscape may be 'unnamed'. Those will be edited and changed once I create and determine names for them. They are currently placeholders.)
Geography
Mainly grasslands, shrublands, and verdant swamps. The climate is tropical with warm temperatures year-round. Most of the rain in the region falls in the western edge, south of the tallest peaks in the Spines of Tarrasque Mountain Range. The grassland is very fertile and a large surplus of grain is exported. The shrublands are less fertile and more hilly or rugged landscape.
Ecosystem
The coast boasts rich and thriving fish communities all along the southern border. Each ecosystem (swamp, grass, shrubs) boasts organisms typical of the region. However, there are occasional giant raids on the northern border, so large wildlife herds typically roam the southern half of the region.
Ecosystem Cycles
Since the climate is tropical, the seasons are dictated more by rainfall, than temperature. During the rainy season, herds roam the land freely and farming is in full swing. During the drier months, animals typically travel to the shrublands to mate and give birth. Farming during the dry season usually consists of more dry-weather tolerant forage.
Localized Phenomena
This region is prone to natural and man made disasters. Typically, the natural disasters include floods, tidal waves, droughts, earthquakes, fires, and the occasional hurricane. Hurricanes can be especially devastating because after the wind and tidal surges destroy coastal and low lying areas, rain will run into the northern mountain range and dump enourmous amounts of rainfall across the region. Man nade disasters typically include war, fires, bloody coups, diseases, and riots. A curse afflicts this land causing the disasters to be 'attracted' to the region. How can anyone break this curse?
Climate
The climate is temperate, but the rainfall is seasonal. Forests and jungles are incapable of handling the unpredicatble weather, so grasslands and low growing vegetation dominate.
Fauna & Flora
Flora and fauna are typical for the temperate region. The most analogous real-world example would be the continent of Africa.
Natural Resources
Farming grains and forage, plus several profitiable mines are the major resources of the region. However, there is potential for grazing and fishing to become great resources if they could land and sea could be properly utilized.
History
The history of this region is constant change. Natural and man made disasters frequent the history, forcing established governments to disband or dissolve. Only small societies and communities continue to thrive.
Tourism
This region isn't known for tourism, but many people looking to hide or vanish do emigrate to the region to live. Some people passing through do enjoy the rustic nature of the region, but there is little to see or do. The only exception might be Ozette, the largest city of the region, which may be able to offer some travel and tourist attractions.
