The prison ship Yarkova, carrying a load of ten thousand would be prisoners in stasis, is hit by the Cataclysm while traversing warp space. The vessels psychic navigator sacrifices themselves to safe the ship and all its prisoners by shunting it back into realspace as far away as possible from the source of the Cataclysm. The Yarkova is taken over by the ships damaged AI, which uses the last of its power to land the vessel safely on the nearest planet and begin awakening protocols on the prisoners.
The ex-prisoner population find themselves on an unknown world in an unknown sector of space. Regardless of their dire circumstances, they begin the process of surviving on their new homeworld. A year passes filled with exploration, mystery, the discovery of alien life and the creation of numerous cities, space capable vessels and and space elevator connected station.

They are both confined to their homes and their kingdoms are temporarily placed under the stewardship of the Third to further their recovery and the revitalization of the land.
The worlds of the Jurai Sector have recovered both technologically and culturally to a level where they have begun exploring the FTL routes to neighboring systems. Neighboring worlds encounter each other. Some begin trading and diplomatic acts, while others begin conflict and aggression.
Brave explorers and adventurers take up the task of exploring old FTL routes and discovering new ones. Many never return from their journeys due to the dangers inherent in blind jumps or of damages to routes brought about by the Cataclysm.
The primitive world of Frusen Sten is occupied by Thraen Hegemony forces for the planets unique fauna and mineral deposits. The extreme disparity between the Hegemony's and the tribes of the Stenish people's technology results in many Stenish deaths in initial attempts of resistance. The surviving tribes are either left to their own devices in the unclaimed wilds or are indentured into the Hegemony's factories and mines.
